Read today how the new admin may look differently at Cuba

Then I went & read a site about Canadians who have been going there a long time

Looks like a cool place

Imagine it back in the 40's & 50's - I bet it was a sweet party place (Not to even imagine the cigars)

You can even take your boat there if you follow their rules

Only thing bad is imagine how it would change when they open it up to all of us

My wife and I have gone to Cuba for the past three years, and will go again this year if we can.
Not into the cigars but the Rum there is great.
People are very friendly, beaches can't be beat, and alot safer than going to Mexico.

My passport was never stamped when going to Cuba. Cuba is open to americans, it is the american government that restricts your freedom to travel there.

Foreign policy is not going to be one of the strengths of the new administration. They're going to be much better at... umm.... Doesn't he have such a friendly smile?

Yeah. . too bad. . .the last administration really had a strength in the foreign policy arena.

What is the exchange rate from the Loonie to their currency ?

& will Canada be unhappy if it gets over run by Americans ?

Man! Vegas is Tanking - I wonder what Cuba will have - that other destinations don't have ?

Is crime that low ? - I bet that changes too

I'm looking at unspoiled & a good value & little hassle

I saw a quote from Raul Castro about normalizing relations with the US.. His stance is, we've survived for 50 years, we have no plans on changing.. basically "screw the US". I wouldn't look for any changes any time soon. Just brought a box of Cohibas back from Costa Rica.. FANTASTIC!!

Yeah. . too bad. . .the last administration really had a strength in the foreign policy arena.

nothing like an accelerating the downward spiral

I went to Cuba a few years ago to do a show for Comedy Central at Guantanomo Bay. I was real excited about being able to go to Cuba.

Well, Gitmo ain't Cuba!. It was one of the most barren pieces of island I have seen and can only remember may two Palm Trees.

It was interesting as we went out to the main gate where the locals (Cuban Nationals) cross daily to work on the base. We were high in a guard/lookout tower. Was fun to look through the scopes to watch "them" watching "us".

the Military folks loved us being there to entertain them and treated us very well. Fond memories of those guys. Most of the stagehands were Jamaican. Hard working indeed.

No Cuban Cigars to be found! A friend came by for the Holidays who had just returned from Mexico with a bunch of Cohiba Robusto's. I really like most of the Dominican brands better (Fuente) as most Cubans are just too darn strong.

Cuba would be an awesome trip from South Florida. I hope they open it up but I also understand the principals of not supporting a communist dictatorship financially. Screw Iraq, Cuba has nicer beaches - let's take them over next, LOL ;-)

Apparently they're accepting Canadian $$$
& will Canada be unhappy if it gets over run by Americans ?
No, we like you guys
Man! Vegas is Tanking - I wonder what Cuba will have - that other destinations don't have ?
Sun sand surf and cheap booze, free if you're in an all inclusive
Is crime that low ? - I bet that changes too
Never had a problem with crime
I'm looking at unspoiled & a good value & little hassle

Hope you get a chance to check it out

Looks like we may have some new boating options based on the news today - how long to the first Cuba based CSR member I wonder??

Now everybody with old car parts will make a killing selling them.

You spend your money, castro's will take it and the Cuban people will still wake up without toilet paper!!! That's a fact.
the only difference is they will need people to work these resorts and I'm sure they'll make a great wage doing it.

They will make a decent wage, only to pay a huge tax (extortion) and still be persecuted by an oppressive government. You think you’re contributing to their economy? Really??

Ever do real business with Cuba? Know anyone that has lived under the government rule? Don’t ask, don’t tell lives in Cuba.

The only reason Canada enjoys a relationship with Cuba is the fact that the US is a buffer between them and a communist threat. Why not spend your Canadian dollars in Iran? You enjoy a huge Muslim population yet you chose to spend your dollars with the communists instead of the Muslims. I bit hypocritical don't you think?

With all the recent talk about Cuba, (this thread was revived from 2009), I have added another item to my reverse bucket list - 10 things I will never willingly do.

So wedged in between a cruise ship and Disney land/world....... Going to Cuba.

No offense to those who have gone or are now considering it, but for me, no thanks.
