For the past 25 years I have been cruising the Gulf of Mexico and it's intracoastal waterways without incident. (well, might of hit an occasional sandbar while not paying attn). Now that I've relocated to Arkansas my boat will be in Lake Ouachita. Not being on a lake for a very long time, I'm a little leary about potential hazards. I've heard numerous horror stories about logs just under the surface, tips of submerged mountains/trees lurking below, etc. Any tips from the pros for safe navigation ? I haven't yet been out on the lake (maybe next week) but I assure you it will be a SLOW ride.

JoRay: Lake Ouachita is a wonderful lake and very easy to navigate. The lake boasts 40,000+ acres and about 1000 miles of shoreline. I believe there are 50 marked islands with many niches to get away from the crowds. We slip at Brady, there are about four Sea Rays on our dock alone, one 48, one 350, one 330 and our 320. Give a shout out to the Annie Laurie on the VHF, if we're on the lake we can show you some spots up your way. Welcome to the lake.

I also boat at Lake Ouachita. I use one of my parents slips at Crystal Springs and usually head out towards Brady. One thing if you come out of Crystal when you go past the last No Ski buoys stay towards the center of the channel. If you are on the right side there are a lot of stumps over there. And they do not so nice things to your prop as I found out last year. But other than that I would definitely suggest a depth finder. There are a lot of spots that get shallow real quick. Would like to meet up with some other Sea Ray owners some time out there if anyone else is interested? Send me a pm or post on here if anyone wants to meet up.
