Alright I give up, been looking through manuals can’t seem to find how I set my favorite cruise rpm’s. 07 40 dancer Cummins. It has a couple of switches on dash panel, one is low rpm’s, for canal cruising, one is engine sync. There’s another switch for saving favorite rpm’s, how do I set this? Second red switch in from the left. Thanks!!

I have the same switch. I am not sure you can set it. It is programmed to limit the RPM already. The middle position (off) should get you full RPM, mine is 2650. The cruise 1 would be like a max of 2300 and the cruise 2 would be preset to get you full RPM 2100.

It would be used to "conserve" fuel on a long trip where fuel stops may be limited.

The far right switch of those red switches would be used to bump the RPM up or down from idle I think.

I read somewhere that u can set your desired cruise rpm’s on the two toggles, but it didn’t explain how to do it

Either switch can be set to most any desired speed. The RPM switch will change the set point while the Cruise Control switch is engaged. The throttle needs to be advanced at or past the set RPM for the switches to work.

Found this post I put up years ago which contains the Cummins instructions for Cruise Control:

ok so from what i am reading, i should take the boat out and engage engine sync, then engage cruise 1, then advance throttle until the rpm will no longer go up because it has hit the cruise 1 setting. then use the rpm button to advance to desired setting. after all that it will just hold the new cruise setting?

You mostly have it. Remember the throttle will still kick in while in cruise whenever the cruise setting exceeds the throttle position. So, you can lower the cruise setting as much as you want. But, if you advance the setting you can run up against the throttle setting. I just fully advance the throttle when going in to cruise.

can i set the settings at the dock somehow? or have to be out running? and they will automatically save the settings i put in?

No reason you can't set it at the dock, the system doesn't care whether the transmission is in gear or not. I would be careful about running the engines up very high without a load for any length of time. What you might try is running the engines with the throttle up to high idle (~1000RPM for my diesel). Engage one of the cruise buttons. If the engine retards, the setting is already lower than your high idle and you would bring it back up to where it was with RPM Up. If no change, press the RPM Down switch until the RPM starts to retard, then advance the throttle. You could play with the RPM around that range to see how it works.
Either Cruise Control switch retains the last place it was set.
