Soooo....a good buddy of mine is between boats and looking hard before spring and I am kinda enjoying the hunt along with him, dont we all:huh: He is very particular about the condition of the vessel, arn't we all:huh: but I mean VERY. So he finds one finaly that merrits the possibility of his next baby but it is 7 hours away:smt021 He negociate's a potential agreed on price and we plan our trip with the seller taking and emailing pics and tons of info today.....tonight buddy gets email from seller saying wife traded boat in for car at dealership and sorry but boat no longer available:smt013 My thought is seller was offered more money and made up story, what do you guys think?

I find it hard for a "traditional dealer" going anywhere near taking a boat in on trade (unless of course it was me). I'm in the auto business and seen some small "mom and pop" places locally with boats. They're usually junk and they're trying to make a quick buck. Not sure of the price your buddy landed on with the seller vs. the selling price but I find it hard to believe a dealer would give anywhere close to a private party amount. I call BS!!

I think you're right, someone probably came along with the cash. I see your from the Henderson/TI area. There's gotta be a ton of boats for sale locally, no? I know theres a bunch in the Syracuse area. Good luck with your search.

ask for the dealers name and number and try to buy from him?

That is a very good idea....So what kind of boat is he looking foe anyway. There are tons for sale right now.

I don't think it's worth the time or effort to go after this one. There are always more boats. Plenty will be in great shape, too. Whether it was traded or someone else bought it, the seller may or may not have gotten more for it than the "tentative" agreed upon price to your buddy. In the seller's mind, your buddy probably was not a "sure thing" as he still needed to come and look at it. I don't think you can blame the guy for taking advantage of a quick, "sure thing", sell. Maybe it really was traded - it's happened before. All we can do is guess. At least he contacted your buddy before you left for the trip.

Oh well, good luck with the search!

I agree with you 100%. Hey, any of us would take "the bird in the hand" over a tentative agreement via craigslist any time. I have dealt with craigslist several times and although my experience was good, there seem to be lots of tire kickers on there too!! Move on and find another excellent boat!! There is sure to be some out there!! Good luck!
