Craigslist - Dealer promoting Honda Generator

I think if they left it on top of the fly-bridge they'd be ok.

No, no run it in the cabin out of the weather...!
Crack a window for ventilation.

We're not attempting to start another portable genny thread....are we?

Fact is most people are too stupid to safely operate a portable generator anywhere...never mind on a boat!

All jokes aside, I was recently admiring a pair of 7000W Honda portable generators custom welded onto a bumper of a food truck.
They just purred........below the normal level of talking volume!
Knowing that's like $8000 and 14,000W of portable power I was impressed enough to almost buy a taco.
Honda does make nice equip.

They are great generators. I have two of them but don't use them on a boat. I was just shocked to see an actual dealer indirectly condoning the use online. Seems like a bad business decision.

I bought mine from the owner of this site, Jim @ BOE. It was less than $1100. I've been using it for close to 5 years now. It's a great little unit for a boat. You just need to be extremely smart about how, when, where, and how long you run it. I would never run it on the roof of a houseboat like that. That's a Darwin award waiting to happen to be sure.

How is this "bad business"?

I'm going out on a limb here with this assumption but let's say the purchaser of the boat also took the Honda generator as well. On his first outing he ran the generator and killed half his family with the fumes. The surviving members of the family hire a lawyer who does a little digging and finds out that the USCG doesn't recommend the practice of using portable generators on boats. The marina who sold the boat recommended the generator so... see where I'm going with this?

Except, the USCG doesn't have to recommend them. Example...using your logic, here's a life raft, man oh man, better not have one of these babys on board cause it ain't USCG approved. https://www.boemarine.com/collectio...e-liferaft-4-person-capacity-container-packed

Exactly. If the tragic happens and it can be shown that the dealer suggested it was appropriate to use a portable generator on board it could easily result in repercussions (at a minimum bad publicity, at most a huge lawsuit - even if it wasn't won it could still bankrupt a dealer defending it).
