I just got finished talking with my boat mechanic. Apparantely, he is overwhelmed because of all the "cracked engine block" calls he is getting in the Central Texas area due to the colder winter we had in Texas. He tried to get his clients to winterize their motors/boats and many did not this last fall (no worries, I winterized). He even received calls from Del Rio, down on the border, of cracked motors. I just wanted to share the importance of winterizing your boats.

Just goes to show you never know what you are going to get. I bet those blocks cracked the first week of February. Here in New Mexico, we hit -30F. I had just purchased my sundeck the Saturday before in Phoenix. I remember when I was draining the block in the parking lot at the lake and filling it with the pink thinking "Wow, -50 degree protection. Like I will ever see that kind of cold. That is overkill." Little did I know...

Also saw a post on here about someone who had a motor and outdrive for sale. I bet it will be worth its weight in gold over the next couple months!

We had lots of cracked blocks here in Mississippi last year. Mostly skiers that didn't know it till they got their boats out on the lake for the first time of the year. Our marina shop was replacing engines till June trying to get caught up.

Yep. I don't think that is the record, but it is close. I live at 6,800 ft above sea level. Don't be fooled by the desert mantra. It gets cold here. We were at normal temps in the morning all this week at about 15 to 20F.
