Boat Info
1983 sundancer 260
Engines
350 mercruiser w/alpha drive
Had to change out a battery yesterday rather quickly an was wondering if I might have screwd something up On my trim motor for lwr unit. I there one + and one- for this unit?
The trim switch worked fine the last time I used it, but now I've pulled the boat out of our flooded lake an the up position doesn't work.down position does an the trailer button works but not the up side of the trim switch. If a 2 + wire system I might have left off one wire. Anybody know?
Also, does anyone have a oil filter number for a 260 v-8 ? Can't seem to find a number, an my local orielly's counter guy is giving me the "deer caught in the headlights" look when I asked him to look it up.
Thanks

I would give you the same look. What the heck is a 260 V-8? I bet if you ask for a oil filter for a 1983 mercruiser with a 350, you will get a better response.

I understand the fact that it's a 5.7 350. I ref. a 260 here, because that's the h.p. rating for my engine. Can u help or r u just wanting a higher post count? Lol.

The horsepower rating of your engine doesn't change the filter you need. Good luck with your oil filter search. This should be a tough one!

Maybe you can just cross-reference the one that is currently installed? If it is a remote filter, it can be one of only a few. Mercruiser makes only a few different ones now If it is not a certain year V-6, then it will fit all the rest. If it goes right to the bluck, I believe it is either a PH30 or PH13.

Hope that did not boost my post count to much......

Redhook, thank u, my filter doesn't have any numbers on it, an I didn't want to take the old one off an cart to the parts store.
I'll try the help listed here, an thank u for having something relevant to add.

I have two 200 something horsepower motors with filters, plugs, wires and hoses. When I turn the keys and flip the switches my motors start. Should I be worried?

Plus one on my post count! :smt038:smt038:smt038:smt038:smt038:smt038:smt038:smt038

This is pretty common. If the trailer trim works and the helm trim doesn't, it is usually the helm switch. In the older Mercs, the trim switch is in the top of the shifter and gets wet. I've replaced a few over the years. Sometimes flipping the switch and you will hear a click. You can pull the switch and test it or bypass it. If not the switch, then the solenoid on the trim unit. There are a couple of them. If the trim motor is making noise but the drive is not going down then the rams are probably stuck. Can happen after sitting for awhile. Sometimes putting some weight on the drive, stand on it with one leg and nudge it.

Filter is probably this...
FILTER

Can get it here too, probably off the shelf...

@ Andy.I can hear a "clicking" noise from the back area. All other aspects of the trim works, just no "up" on the throttle handle. Relay perhaps?
