One of the mooring cover buckles cut up the gel coat after a few hundred miles of driving. I had routed them with care but now think I should eliminate the metal buckles. I'd like your advice as I studied this project somewhat but will be seeing the boat body shop. The cover is taut as I tent it over a rope run from bow to stern. 22' Searay on tandem trailer.

I had a belly strap that was cutting my boat in half after a 1600 mile drive, just the nylon rubbing.

Want an answer and somebody really might distinguish amongst the various forums created by the original software package which ought to be condensed but I'm just interested in getting an answer to this annoying problem

I would never trailer my boats with the covers on. I spent too much on the cover and have seen what they do going down the road. But if you must, then use some pipe insulation or a pool noodle with the strap going through the center hole. It might buff that area of the gel coat but shouldn't cut it if it's clean.
