I have rebuilt the carb on a 1992 Mercruiser 3.0 and it is really running well at cruise speed 22-25 mph and I rarely go higher than that but in the past I used to get at full throttle about 35mph. I can now only get to 27 mph at WOT. I have installed a new fuel pump as well. I obviously am getting up to the power circuit or I wouldn't get to 20 plus mph but what are things I should check. I do have some chips and gouges in my prop....can that contribute to loss of top speed? I haven't put marine bottom paint on for several years now....is that another contributing factor? Could I be running a touch too rich although I pulled my spark plugs and they have a nice tan color to them which tells me my mixture is right where it should be. Should I check my compression? Or should I just be happy with an engine that old that gets me 25 - 27 mph top end speed. Thanks for any and all input.

+1 to @ttmott, since you rebuilt the carb, throttle full open on the stick, engine not running obviously and look down the throat for full open, easy to bump/change a cable.
