2004 Sea Ray 240 Sundeck
Towed by 2008 F-450 pickup
Engines
350Mag w/BravoIII Drive
I have to say I have fallen in love with this boat. I loved the 215EC a whole lot but this boat is just totally awesome(this from a 51 year old guy). The ride, the handling, the power from the 350Mag/BravoIII, the looks, the features. I got lucky finding this boat on Craiglist with only 90 hours, indoor boatel stored at one of the best SeaRay dealers in the nation(Prince William Marina), professionally maintained. I spent all day Saturday washing and waxing the whole boat, used a whole large bottle of Maquirers Marine cleaner wax, this boat looks brand new. I did not know at first that SeaRay did the switch-a-roo with the numbers for the 240. The new 240's look and have the room of a 220 while mine is the size of a 260. I finally learned all about the installed pump out head/holding tank. Yea!, no more port-a-potti. This thing works better than the toilet facilities in our RV.
I shake my head when people ask my why I would own a boat. They just don't get it. Love my Sea Ray 240.

Couldnt agree with you more. We pick up a 2001 240 with 80hrs on it ,and couldnt be happier.

Former 240SD owner...completely concur. Greatest family runabout ever. Glad you are enjoying it...we certainly enjoyed ours.

I couldn't agree with you more as well ..We have had 2 240's in between them we had a bigger Sundancer and went back to a 240

It could be perfect for your family. It depends on your needs and budget. If budget is not up to the pricier new Sea Ray's, then maybe this is an alternative.

That is one homely boat. I am not knocking any other Sundeck, but the my 2004 240 has so much "people" room, storage space, an enclosed head with enough room to allow you to change clothes without striking your head on something. Probably the best thought out design of a family boat I have ever seen. Sea Ray loves it too, They just relabled it a 260SD and jacked the price $20,000. A new 260SD with the options my boat has stickered for $79,000 at the dealer, I about choked when I saw the sticker.

I much prefer to better seating arrangement of the later boats. Love the rear facing seat. And yes my 230 (now 240) is not really any bigger than the old 220, but I purchased the size boat I wanted. If I wanted a old 240 sized boat, then I would have purchased a new 260. But that is too much boat to tow around.

We love our 240 SunDeck.

We have 550 hours on it!

Would love to move up but not sure why?

I still miss my 240SD. This was the most versatile (and fun) Sea Ray I ever owned. It was also the best selling boat in Sea Rays line up for many years. The replacement 260SD is also nice but I really prefer the 2000 to 2009 models.

I still have my 2003 270 SD for another week if anyone is interested. I would love to sell it to someone on this forum rather than the DR for $34K it's in great shape. Fresh water used only

Yep, IMHO the 2001-2008 240SD was/is one of the best larger sport boats made by sea ray.

I miss my 240....I like my 280 but I would really prefer to have the 240 back. Dang thing is up in Canada now...hope the owners are taking care of it the way that I did :smt089 It really is a timeless and perfect family boat. Sea Ray hit perfection on that one.

The only gripe I have about the boat is the goofy anchor locker hatch. Somebody with a sense of humor put the hinge on the rear instead of the side. So much fun deploying the anchor. Oh, and I cannot even see the bilge pump, I know it is down there somewhere because I tested it and it worked. I want to install a 2,000gal Rule pump like I did on the 215EC but it looks like quite a challenge. And.. if I tow the boat with the mooring cover removed I have to put some weight on the left rear seat cushion to keep it from blowing upward. Mine has the swivel seat to Port, seen some photos of ones with long loungers on that side. Thankfully ours came equipped with the chair. Little over 24 hours and we will be out on the Chesapeake for the long weekend, just need to stop by West Marine for a bigger tow behind for all the kids.

I agree whole heartedly! The front hatch opening is a horrible design. It opens towards you while you try to get the anchor or bow ladder. The Chaparral SSi and Sunesta has a hatch in the same spot, but it opens to the side to give you easy access to the anchor and bow ladder.
I love my SUNDECK but that part of it is a pain in the...
The 240 Sundeck could be the perfect family boat for me if it was a little bigger. That's why I think the 270 Sundeck is the perfect family boat! We have a lot of brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews and cousins. The boat seats a lot of people comfortably.
