Could auto pilot be stopping my boat from good by past 3,000 rpm?

Darren, I think I would look for a different Authorized Mercruiser Technician. Your timing would have to be so far off to keep the motors from getting past 3000 RPMs that I doubt the motors would start or idle. All you are doing here is throwing poo against the wall and hoping something sticks. As I said a week ago and PlayDate just echoed, it's time to quit screwing around and get a pro to find out what's going on.

If the first so-called Merc Tech adjusted the timing and then never water tested to see if his "fix" worked, then never, ever use him again as he is NOT professional. Quit pissing away your time and money and get a pro to look at it and tell them to just fix it. You are losing your summer. Right now you don't have a boat....you have a floating condo.

Lastly, a professional pre-purchase survey and sea trial would have revealed this issue.

I just filled up with fresh gas yesterday and added stabil to both tanks. I had a few people saying gas could be bad. Is there something else I should add to the new gas? I figured the stabil would help the gas.

Stabil was the CAUSE of my problems, not a solution. There is no reason to add stabil during the season.

How much did you add to each tank?

I was under impression that would improve the octane.. any recommendations on what to add now?

When you say 3000 rpm, do you mean exactly that rpm? Does the engine go to exactly the same rpm every time? If so, the wires, fuel, trim tabs, etc. do not know the rpm. I think if there was a problem with any of them, the engines would not go to exactly the same rpm every time. That means it may be a computer malfunction in the engines. Some engines have a safety feature that limits the rpm if the computer senses a problem - overheating, one or more cylinders not firing, etc. It could be something as simple as a wire coming lose from the sensor, computer, etc. or the sensor could be bad. I hope this has been of some help.

Yes the rpm on port motor goes to 3

yes this helps very much and thank you. Would you know if I should hire another mercruiser mechanic to do another computer diagnostic?

enough for 100 gallons each tank. Would you know if I could add something else to correct the problem.

Check that your cruise control rocker tab is not engaged. It could inadvertently be on. I never used mine but after launching in the spring I noticed I was unable to get above a certain speed and noticed that the cruise control rocker switch was on. Must have been moved when I had the boat detailed over the winter. Just a Thought.

where would that rocker switch be located?

I will send the person who figures this out a gift card of choice or amazon card...

Not sure but I think it is mpi.. fuel pressure is at top of block near anti freeze line. Serial numbers are OL670519 OL 671965. Fuel injected v drives

Darren, it's been suggested that you seek another Merc Tech and stop throwing darts against the wall asking for different advice. I can only imagine your frustration. But in post #26 you ask again if you should seek out a Merc Tech. I suggested that early in one of your other 3 threads on this issue. You clearly don't know where to go to solve this and a couple of very knowledgeable and experienced members of this forum have given you the best advice you can get....Find an expert.

No one on this forum has seen your boat or been really able to diagnose your problem. As you can see, everyone is truly trying to help but none of us can do anything more than throw wild-ass suggestions at you and even though intentions are great, at this point none of them are going to help.

Ask around your marina and find a good, quality Mercruiser-certified Technician that can provide references and tell him to fix it and don't stop working on it until he's found the problem. You are wasting time and money chasing your tail. Spend your money wisely.

Good luck, I hope you heed this advice and get your boat fixed.

You are right I wish I were more mechanic inclined instead I’ve been a lieutenant for sheriff department for last 20 years. I did repeat myself as you state kinda speaking out loud meaning I do need to hire another tech. I’ve asked everyone and had 2 mechanics work on the boat but haven’t found issue. Thank you for your advice I appreciate it.

Not being mechanically inclined is not a curse. Not knowing and recognizing your limitations can be. I am very adept around a shop and can do lots. I've just nearly finished a 3-year restoration of a 1985 Cobalt boat but when I put it in the water last week it developed a miss and I was lost. Rather than poke around at it I took it straight to the shop. Turns out it has a valve stuck in the guide. I would have never found that in a million years.

My son has been with his local sheriff's department for 18 years. He has been patrol, air division, white water rescue, K9 handler and currently the armorer and sniper for the department SWAT team. He owns a wakeboard boat but when something doesn't work he takes it to his dealer. When he needs a project done on his house....he calls Dad. He knows his limitations.

Thank you for your service to your community and with a job like yours you want your boat to be a source of rest and relaxation....not a source of anger and frustration. Find the Tech, get it fixed regardless of cost, and enjoy your boat.

Shawn
