Costs associated with bottom painting?

Well, my fellow Hoosier (I was born and riased in Ft Wayne), that seems mighty steep. You want to have the course they laid out, soda blasting, etc., but don’t skimp on product, or you will be doing sooner rather than later... again. Can you trailer it to another marina? Maybe you could find a place or perhaps a one man operation or smaller outfit to do this for you.

This isn't comparable due to location, but our marina is a year 'round yard and t hey only do bottoms one way......total prep, 3 coats of ablative bottom paint, 4 coats at the waterline, epoxy primer on the hardware, 3 coats of hard paint on the hardware...included pressure wash prior ro sanding and includes the haulout. The cost is &70/ft.

When you get into the pricing, you quickly find that EPA or DEP requirements for catching the sanding dust, catching and filtering the pressure wash run-off and insurance are huge adders to the cost of an otherwise elemental service.

A do-over on a bottom job is a real time and $$ waster, so who does your bottom, their experience, the paint types they use, and how the boat is prepared is more important than the actual cost of the job. Allowing 30 minutes more dry time than specified on the epoxy primer can mean all the bottom paint flaking off which would require taking the boat back down to bare gelcoat again.

Where in Indiana are you getting these prices? My guess is Monroe. No where near that costly on Lake Michigan.
