OK, it's winter and I'm bored, sometimes I like to think about what I am buying and what it costs per pound. We all know a great steak from the supermarket is $12-15 a pound and if you like to eat expensive steaks out, you can pay $60-70 a pound. A Sea Ray 400 Sundancer that might be worth about $120,000 weighs 22500 lbs and that's a cost of just over $5 a pound. What a deal. However, today I got in the mail a spring for my Lofrans Project 1000 windlass. It cost $30 and weighs 5 grams! That's 0.011 pounds at a cost of $2727 per pound. Could this be the most expensive part per pound on the boat?

Who can top that?

Pete

Only the initial prototype chips are expensive, once mass production starts on them they are pretty cheap.

I think the diamonds on the Admirals' fingers have got that beat by a bit.

Mine is either the wife or my kids.

So far they're in a dead heat. I've carefully calculated the cost at just short of everything I have.

The absolute most expensive thing on a boat......
