Currently Boatless, but hoping for a 1992 Sea Ray 31 Amberjack, twin Caterpillar diesels

Good morning folks,

totally new here and hoping to be a permanent and contributing member. To that end, I am seriously considering the purchase of a 1992 Sea Ray Amberjack 310. It's located in SWFL. After doing much laborious and diligent research, I have come across all the arguments for and against a boat with a cored hull. My question is this: Does this year, (1992), and length (31') Amberjack have a cored hull? I am planning on having a complete survey done this week. Just trying to have a little advance knowledge. Also, are the stringers and spars an area of major concern. This boat was NOT lift kept, but will be "lifted" at it's new residence/port. Any advice on what may be trouble areas would be greatly appreciated.

Look at your other thread for the answer on coring...........

The only engine option for the 310AJ in '92 was 300hp Cummins 6BTA's. It the boat you are interested in has Cats, then somebody repowered the boat. We had a 310AJ in our marina with diesels and the boat was problematic because the diesels literally shook the boat apart. When the owner made the last turn into the marina you could hear hatches, windows, and gear rattling before you heard the engines. The boat was typical Sea Ray quality, but the structure just wasn't heavy enough to support the Cummins engines. Be very sure your surveyor checks the entire structure for stress cracking and lamination issues
