What was the music from your Atlantic City compilation? That was PERFECT!

Bill is practicing on his guitar so he can make his own music.

I have a thing about Hawaiian guitar music. The music I used was either from... Steel Guitar magic Hawaiian Style, or from Hawaii's greatest hits vol 2. Can't remember which one I pulled the music from. So far it's still on the video. guess it wasn't such a big "Hit".

:smt009 i PAID FOR THE cd-dvd-sd ECT. AND ADD IT TO MY BOAT VIDEO THEY SHOULD NOT BE CENSORED:smt013IMHO:smt013

Ok boys and girls. time for a copyright lesson. sit back and enjoy.

Let "Jack" put his two cents in again. The copyright laws prevent you from copying music. I can assure you all good music is copyrighted. The cost of enforcing a claim against someone who copies one or two CDs is not practical, it is too expensive. The cost of going after U Tube or someone who mass distributes the music is whole different story. Ron you buy music you can play it very loud if you like, but you can't copy and distribute it. When you attach it to a U Tube video you are distributing it and using it.

Seems fair to me. You're using something owned by another, and posting it on a public site. Only natural that they want to get compensated -- especially considering that if they don't enforce it with you, they set a precedent that can be used against them in court. It also sounds like the remedy is simple and available -- pay for the music.

If the video you made was for private use only, this wouldn't be an issue.

The music WAS paid for originally, in fact a couple of times between owning the cassette then the cd. So Ive paid for it twice as well as gone to a lemonheads concert years and years ago.

SO you cant just "pay" for the music to use.

It's cheesy to me.

Why are you using music in your video? More than likely because you think that music enhances the video and will make it appeal to others. Why should an artist allow you to use their music to enchance your work product for free? You say that the tunes that are offered to you to use "free" are "crap" and you don't want to use them. They are "crap" because they bring no value to you. You want something good, but don't want to pay for it, artist big star says you want to use my good music then pay for it or use "crap". On the other legal side if they allow the music to be used unlicensed on U-Tube that could open up a whole lot of other issues, like using it for free in commericals or movies. Sometimes the system sucks but most times it is for a reason.

Few people allow the valuable fruits of their labor to be used for nothing, especially when someone else will benefit from it.
The "value" is not of anything to use for profiting. All music is "valuable", thats silly to say. I play music in my home and in the car etc...and Ive PAID for the music. IN many cases, many times over the years as formats (8 tracks to records, to cassettes to cd's to iTunes)

lol...Sorry, didnt realize how late it was and had to catch the Long Island ferry.

All I am really saying is this: that it is another shot in their own feet by the record industry to overcompensate for people file sharing. As far as I know, you cannot get any kind of audio to "steal" from a YouTube video. In other words, if you like the song in the video, you cant simply copy it. You have to download it somewhere else.

However, imo, by allowing people to use music, you are actually getting people interested in a song again, or perhaps introducing it to someone for the first time.

For a while, even personally, when I was looking to add music to an earlier video, the length of "My Wave" by Soundgarden was perfect for a vid. It turns out, since then, I was reintroduced to a group I hadnt listened to in a while, and consequently went to iTunes and bought 2 songs (had the rest already in iTunes on my laptop).

Either way, every time my vids get "WMG"d", I am deleting that artist from my iTunes. Im not kidding. Lemonheads are gone from my library, and even if they came out again with the greatest song ever, I am not going to buy it.

They can make the choices whether their song gets heard or not, but as a consumer, I can choose to spend my $ with them.

@ billandamy
if you use iMovie you own a Mac. Look into a membership for mobile me. For 99.00 USD yearly you get 10 GIG of hosting space for pictures, movies, data.
Once you upload it just send the link to your friends. Been doing that for 2 years. You have control of privacy settings (read only, download, etc.)
The only drawback is that the picture of your Quicktime movie is a little smaller than on You Tube.
Hope this helps.

Thanks! That does sound cool.

However, I like the vids being public. Because of this, I have met some people on Lake Zoar as of course, when going on youtube, you sometimes search for things you are interested in. I searched "Lake zoar wakeboarding" and found 3 other people who board on Zoar.

The holder of a copyright pretty much gets to set the rules for the use of the item under that copyright. There is and exception for "fair use." But fair use is not using the entire copyrighted item. You might be able to pass fair use by using short segments of multiple songs...

No dice, tried overlaying background noise, keeping original background, muffling things up...I think the new processor they have (launching whole new channel/vid shortly) must read individual algorithms somehow and are able to spot added tracks and isolate them. I do notice the upload/processing takes a bit longer than in the past.

Oh well, that sucks.

Sorry, but the very people the WMG is trying to "protect" are being hurt the most without this free advertising for their music. Just the exposure itself HAS to pique some interest and ith the availability to add an iTunes link to buy the song, geez to me this is a no brainer.

Someone PLEASE use my company name as a link in their videos? I wish I could get free advertising along these lines without me doing a thing.

Hey Bill,

A way around this is to use the soundtrack for less than <30 seconds. I'm not sure if you can fade out, switch song, or fade back in. Another option is to open and play with GarageBand. : )

Ahhh...maybe I will try the fade in/out way.

Garage band is something I have still yet to use, but keep meaning to. Over the winter I play a lot more (except I DID bring my guitar and amp outside a couple of weeks ago in tribute to Les) and would love to check it out.

Have you used it? DO you need special mics?

Bill.... if you are a musician, start using Garageband immediately. You will have a new hobby... it is so cool and you literally have a recording studio and other instruments (arguably even other musicians) at your disposal. My oldest, a jazz sax player, just uses the mic on his Intel iMac. (It sounds surprisingly good). I think there are pro USB mics or some that you can use the digital audio in out there if you are REAALLLY serious about quality. Guitars can go "direct input" and you arguably don't need any effects since Garageband has them all.

Have fun!

The only mac I have at home is a macbook. Im curious how I would plug my guitar in. As well, I would definitely need to mic the drumset as I dont think the built in mic will be able to handle the percussion.

I will definitely look into this in the winter. I looked this application over quick once or twice and saw it has so many features.

Thanks for the input...I will totally do something original over the winter and post it up here, maybe an official CSR song

Im fine with that.

As a comparison, Klondike bars have launched a new campaign that includes the Howard Stern show. They have geared specific commercials/print media to each available audience. For example, on the Stern show, they use sex and running jokes (such as bathing with high pitch erik) in that market. Their sales are way up.

Americans are generally way too uptight. An audience who likes bottle rockets shot out or even into their butts still spend $. If I could get free advertising space on www.bottlerocketupmybunghole.com I'd say let it ride.

Found only one obsessed with copyright.
