Cooling difference Ac/DC

Hey all. First boat with a dual voltage fridge. It's the seemingly rare Dino Dc65. If I leave it on with shore power and the DC switch on it cools like a mother...if I unplug shore power and just run it on DC it cools...but not even close to as well. Is this difference normal? Is the fridge failing? Any ideas or input?

Load test the batteries and make sure the relay is fully switching power. I had a similar issue. My problem was that I needed newer batteries...deep cycle. YMMV.

Dig. Thanks for that. I was curious if it might be a battery issue.

Thanks everyone. I will have them tested this week. Hopeful it's as simple as that.

Anyone have a recommendation for a house battery should this one need replacing?

2000 240 DA

Thanks tons

Not Optima. They used to be great. Not so much in the last five tears or so. Duracell from Sam's or a set of 6vdc golf cart batteries would be my choice. Only because the Kirkland's from COSTCO are no longer available in my area.

Excellent. Will consider those options!

Not to belabor the post...but is there a downside to keeping the current battery in place and running a new one in parallel?

it is my understanding that a battery bank with multiple batteries in parallel will only be as strong as the weakest battery in the group.....

Yeah, you have to be a special kind of idiot to be me fellas...

On all my previous boats, the battery switch was wired:

1- starting batt
2- house

It appears that this 240 is swapped the other way so I was attempting to run the fridge solely on the "starting" batt when I thought i was on the "house"

If you have shore power connected... how do you know that the dual voltage refrigerator isn't running on AC power?

I think you need to test the voltage at the refrigerator with it operating. I'm guessing you're going to find a significant voltage drop. Then you get to have fun backtracking the DC wiring to the source. :)

Well, I have tested the refrig with shore power on and the DC switch off. Nothing. Nada. Then took boat off shorelines and ran it just in DC. It cooled but not very well. When shore power was applied with the refrigerator beaker OFF, and I assume the charger kept the batteries topped off, it was cold. But I now see that I have been switching over to the WRONG battery for the last two weeks. I am running it now off the bigger group 31(house) only and will see if we have cold.

Unless I am an idiot. See previous post.

Closure. Let the group 31 charge and then took the boat off shore power. Ran the fridge on the correct(!) battery all day yesterday and it was chilling cold. So...dumb of me to assume battery selector positions. Thanks for all the input from everyone. Cool forum to be sure.

If it's a 1-ALL-2 switch, mark the one and the two start and house accordingly. Couldn't hurt.

Brought to you from a guy who spent the better part of an hour looking for the Battery Charger switch in his boat only to find out it's marked inverter.

......:smt043......

that can be confusing......

It's now CLEARLY labeled. :)
