Coolant Water Pressure?

Quick question about coolant water pressure levels. I have a 240 Sundancer with a fresh water cooled 350 Mag power plant.

I was wondering what I should be seeing on the water pressure gauge.

I have a water pressure guage on the output side of the raw water pump that measures 3-5 psi at idle and up to about 1200 rpm and 10psi at any higher rpm. I am sure it depends on the condition of the impeller and other restrictions in the system but that is a good reason to monitor it-to find when it changes.

Could anyone confirm if a water pressure guage would be a worthwile addition and if I could just drill and tap the thermo housing?
