Cool new Automotive Tool

Induction heating is very handy. I've used a Caterpillar induction heater for bearings for the last 25yrs. Way better that a torch. This unit looks like the co. has incorporated a hot knife feature. One bad as soldering iron. I've often wondered why electric hot water heaters haven’t evolved to this ...Ron

My son said he will bring one home next week to try out. I think if you were in the trade and needed a torch a lot this would be the tool to have. I know one of the warnings are not to ware any metal I suppose it would heat up your watch pretty quick.

If it works like the cook top it will only work on ferrous metals, those that a magnet will stick to. To cook with the technology you have to use either cast iron or stainless steel.

That is correct it is for heating metal objects without damaging non metal items that are close by like wiring and plastic bushings.

These have been around for a while. Our windshield guy was demo'ing one for a while and it was very cool in theory but the problem is it would sometimes burn the paint around the glass. It heats the metal which releases the glue but if you kept it in one spot too long it would heat the metal to the point the paint would bubble. I know as it happened to one of our customers cars. He's back to using the trusty hand tools.
