Cooking on a Sundancer

Just purchased a 2003 Sundancer 280 DA. Will spend 1 or 2 nights at a time on the water. Few questions please:

What type of pan can be used on the electric glass top stove?

What appliances do you usually use to cook hot breakfast or dinner while anchored?

Favorite dinner on the water?

Thanks for your words of wisdom fellow boaters! Our past two boats were day use only and we are excited for the overnighters
 
propane grills and microwave ovens are the most popular choices for cooking on a boat....there are very few things you cannot cook on a boat if you really want to...just depends on how much trouble you are willing to accept for preparing various type meals and the clean-up afterwards....many different types of grill mounts available and lots of archived posts about various types of grills...MAGMA seems to be the most popular grill brand but there are others....of course you can always pre-cook meals at home and just warm them up when at the dock or on the hook....

one of our favorite meals is a foil pack filled with low country boil ingredients...takes around 4 - 6 mins grilling on each side of the foil pack and makes a WONDERFUL meal......

Don't think I have ever used the electric stove, but I assume you can use any kind of cookware.

I use a Blackstone 17" grill for breakfast and dinner. My favorite dinner would be steak and potatoes, but we also like fajitas, stir fry, and the good ole hamburgers.

Cold Cuts, Oatmeal, Yogurt, Breakfast Bars, Microwave Pop Corn...... other then that I'm glad I have a few dockside restaurants for other Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner delights. Oooo can't forget the Keurig.

On our 250 we had a propane grill, mounted on the swimplatform when in use. We'd get 12" frozen pizzas and cook them in the grill (closedup). Turned out great. We'd also do burgers, dogs, etc., on the grill. We used normal stainless steel pans (the kind with the sandwiched aluminum bottom) on the electric stovetop for pasta, stirfry, etc. We still have a set like this:

For times on the hook when the grill wasn't practical (making espresso, etc.) we had a butane stove we used in the cockpit:

We pan fry burgers (in butter) on the stove. They are amazing (anything on the water tastes amazing...). But that is one of my favorites. We use just a normal non-stick skillet. Once the burgers are done, we put oil on the buns, then in the pan to give them a nice toasted crunch. We forgot the oil one time, so my wife improvised and used mayonnaise (real, which is just oil and eggs) and that was really, really good.
 
Any type of pan works on the electric stove top. We cook about anything. If you are Facebook savvy, there is a "cooking on a boat" page to join.
I have had a different experience on the glass electric stove on my 400. I first bought an inexpensive set of Teflon pans at walmart, and they just wouldn't heat up. I went back an bought a pan with a fully flat bottom and it worked much better.

Huh. Weird. We had a flattop electric stove at home for years and used anything. Took some of those to the boat (nothing special, and probably bought at Wallyworld too) without problems. Just my 2cents.
 
I recommend an electric skillet. Works great for making breakfast, one pan for bacon, potatoes and eggs.
For us the added benefit was you can make breakfast topside and both you you can enjoy the view.
 
Magma grill on the swimstep, convection micro, and the stovetop or the electric griddle handle everything... Plus I put an air popcorn popper on board.
 
You need a toaster, fits under the seat right next to the stove. We have a 4 cup coffee pot that they used to put in hotel rooms. Sits on top of the cabinet next to the power panel. My 280 came from the factory with the fishing pole mounts so we used that with the Magna grill. Made eggs, pancakes (make the batter at home and put it in Tupperware). I did not like to cook bacon as it tended to stink up the cabin. Jimmy Dean pre cooked sausage is the berries. Microwaved just about everything. Get you a cooler that will fit under the bed once it is made. We had our 280 for 13 years so we really enjoyed it !!!
 
We cook outside on a gas magna grill as much as possible. We have a flat griddle for eggs, bacon, etc. in the morning.

In fresh water its easy clean up...dunk it in the river and a little soap and fresh water wipe down.

Thank you! It's been many years since we have owned a SeaRay but are happy to be back!
 
We also got a Grillamount ( http://grillamount.com/) for our Magma. A little expensive, but worth every penny in my mind. Very well engineered and built. We mount ours on the stern railing. Allows you to grill even if you have full canvas covering up the rod holders.
