Hi long time no post. First of all hope everyone is well and not dead from The Plague!

So pretty much everything stopped in Hollywood so have just been sitting around. Boat hasn't been used as we were guarding financially unsure of the future.

1993 270 with twin 4.3L alpha 1 gen 2.

Here's the bad - on trim ram cylinder has blown it's seal. Needs to be replaced. The starboard motor overheats. Need to address that.

When she finally comes out and we look at it - question is - the boat has manual shifters that basically suck. They have the old style ignition cut with a spring and a roller.

Boat continuously stalls when shifting. Honestly the only aspect of the boat we hate

We are fishing for a mechanic but want to know - is there an electronic upgrade kit or ANY upgrade kit to solve the dodgey shifting? Anyone else switched this up and how did you do it? Ie without repowering the boat fully or some other hideous fix.

Thanks in advance

only if you convert to Bravo housings and drives.
Cylinder repair kits are available with new end caps and O rings.
If the shift interrupt is activating on land you need new shift cables. If you have difficulty COMING OUT OF GEAR in water, the idle speed may be too high or the shift cable failing or someone who knows nothing about the system tried bending the arm on the roller

Shifting has always been terrible since we have owned the boat. Maybe it is the cables as you suggest? Yes in water docking etc slow speed next to impossible. I had hoped there was kit or upgrade that solved this

When my alpha would die going into gear, the lower shift cable was bad. So when I shifted the throttle, it would push to the kill switch then the lower cable (connects from the neutral interrupter down to the drive) would bind and kill the motor. Once changed no more issue. This was at about 19 years old on my 1996....
