Past week or so, have been converting trailer over from surge Kodiac disc to and EoH set up.
Got the Hydrastar EoH in a complete kit, including power unit, emergency breakaway and breakaway battery, new 7 pin trailer cable and junction box at etrailer on sale for about 825, on sale, complete / shipped. Power head is controlled by a Tekonsha P3 in cab controller.

Removed the MC, shock (both were junk) and drive rod / spring from the A60 surge coupler. Drilled a 3/4" hole through mount and coupler and locked together with a new 3/4" pin (same as the wheel and mounting pins) with the snap rings.

Was pretty simple install and got all the calipers / lines flushed and burped with new DOT 3, checked for leaks and verified all worked as intended. Took for ride to a BIG empty lot and set the gains, and such, on the P3.

Gotta say, that EoH setup with the Kodiacs is awesome. Trailer will stop truck post haste. Set the manual over ride on the P3 and tried to move trailer with the truck. Back wheels just spun and truck didn't move. PLUS, no more surge clunk.

If anyone is contemplating converting from surge, Just Do It........ EoH with discs on all 4 wheels is best trailer upgrade ever, me thinks.

I have been considering that very upgrade, thanks for the rundown

There is a thread here that asks “what is the best upgrade you have done to your boat”.
If you ask that question about your 5th wheel or big bumper pull over on the RV forums, you will overwhelmingly hear “converting to E/H disc brakes”.
E/H is definitely the way to go if you pull a lot.

I can explain exactly what is needed to convert the surge coupler to a "solid" coupler. Soooooooooooooooooo much better.

Just do it

I hate my surge connector
. Klunks bangs ,don't blow it sucks

I’ve got six wheel disks on my boat trailer with the brakeright EOH actuator. I actually stop faster with the boat than the truck by itself. It’s also nice to have brakes on the trailer, backing down a slick ramp.
