Too the "new Ta Ta's" out for her maiden voyage yesterday. Everything went well. The only "issue" if you can call it that is that the control cables seem to be a little stiff when shifting. Is there a way to lubricate the cables and shift assembly?? She is a 1988 270da. Not sure how old the cables are. Everything works fine just a little stiff. Plus when I am cruising, since I have twin 4.3's I have to use more throttle on one motor than the other to balance the gauge on the dash out. Since I am a rookie with "twins" any advice would be of great help.

I just replaced all of my cables and control unit this week. Had a hard time shifting and would not go in and out of gear easily.

Forgot to mention... DO NOT LUBE the cables.

Did you do it yourself or have it done for you? Were the prices reasonable?? Just trying to see if it something a shade tree mechanic like myself can tackle.

Yes, I tackled this on my own. It was a real Pain In The A$$!!!! However I saved myself paying out the labor. For a new control, 3 cables and a few other misc parts it was close to $600.00. I used all Merc/Quicksilver parts.

I just replaced mine as well, I would normally have done it myself but my spring was on a time crunch (day job got in the way:smt009) I don't remember the bill for just the cables, but I paid $800 for new cables, impellers, housings, and replaced a line on the power steering. Changing out those cables is not a great job for a newbie....I don't know your skill level just saying it's not an easy job.
if you want to try and lube the cables, KC Sundancer did a great right up if you want to try that first. I don't see a problem with lubing them, I would have done that to mine, but once it started stalling in reverse I knew they were past just needing lubed.
