hi all
Any advice on this one 2004 sundancer 280 starboard will not start. Cranks fine, fuel pump kicks in but when I try to start I get a non stop beeping. Drive oil fill is fine.

Thanks

Sounds like the low oil ptressure alarm- check the pressure switch on port side of engine - two wires with blade connectors, make sure clean / tight - can jump wires together to test. Switch shuts off fuel pump when no oil pressure / open.

Also I checked the smart craft Manual and the only continuous beep cause its saying is low gear oil but reservoir looks fine

Yeah that beeps, but the constant beep you hear when you turn the key on is the oil pressure alarm. As you crank the the engine the alarm continues until the oil pressure builds. The fuel pump runs while the engine is cranking, once it cranks and you release the key, the pump continues to run ONLY if the oil pressure switch is closed, if the switch is open (low oil pressure or a bad or loose connection on the switch), the fuel pump shuts off. It’s a safety thing to prevent the pump from continuing to run if the engine stalls. Common for the switch to go bad or have a loose connection.

There could be other causes of a no start, but this is an easy thing to check.

thanks for the help. Where js the sensor so I cam check the connections and touch together to see what happens.

So mechanic checked all sensors and can't get boat started. Says be connected scan tool and cant get a readings. Hes saying the ecm needs replacing and they are t plug and play any ideas anyone?

doubt it. you got 2 engines, swap some parts. Unplug the outdrive resovoir see if the beep stops.

Thanks for the quick reply. When u say unplug reservoir what do u mean. I see where we fill it up. There is a sensor or something.?

The float could be stuck on the bottom making it sound. 2 wires coming out of the bottom with Bullitt connectors, unplug it there. take the ecm off the no start engine and try it on the running one.

hi checked the gear resevoir. It is very sludgy and can't really tell if float is stuck but since they aren't expensive figured I should put a new one in anyway. My mechanic said a stuck magnet would only put out an alarm and keep the engine from starting? Thoughts?

Motor will still run with drive resovoir sounding alarm. Your guy said bad ecm right? You can test that easy enough, swap ecm's between engines

Going to do that in a few hours. I noticed the gear oil was very thick and had lighter streaks In it . My other go to pick your brain guy says drive has water in it and that would stop it from starting and possibly put the alarm out

How would the ECM know that there is water in the outdrive? There only sensor input into the ECM is the float switch on the reservoir.
