Considering Purchase 2001 340

Same for me both times. The survey was strictly a structural survey. Compression testing was an additional fee. They did offer to do a visual and get temps and RPM... First buying experience I skipped the compression testing and it was OK. This time around given the condition of the boat and, that the seller already put in a lot of work compression testing was mandatory to me. The fee came out very reasonably at $75 per engine. It took the surveyor a good 45 mins to do it all. Worth the money to me...

Best of luck to you on the boat. Great price and she looks to be really clean!!

Make sure to do the compression test and an oil analysis for each engine. Low cost for what you may find out prior to purchasing the vessel.

You are all correct!! The surveyor did run the boat to check RPM's and said it "seemed" fine. He also did check the temp. with a guage. His feeling was compression wasn't necessary as the boat seemed to run fine. He would not have done the motors, only structure....lesson learned I guess.

I bought a 02 340 last March in Destin and we love it! Our first cruise was to bring it home to Louisiana from Destin (329 Miles) with 5 aboard. Nice boat to stay on for a week or so. I also have the version with the 6.2L 320HP V-Drives. If there are any reservations I have, it is about the power package. I run 24MPH @4000RPM 28-30GPH in the heat of summer. Do a tiny bit better when temp is 75 or less. I think the motors are fine, but I think Sea Ray has mis-propped this power package, or it was a way to keep this a less expensive power option ( as intended). I have searched, studied, searched ..... and have decided to purchase 18 X 18 4 blade props to put on my boat. The Stock 17 X 19 Three blades do not have the bite or the lift necessary to run this boat as efficient as it could be run. there is a trim tab issue with them being to small, but the 4 blade props should help a little with that as well. My max RPM now is REDLINE @ 5200 and i have no problem getting that fully loaded - all the math says the motors and the boat should do better with the bigger props.
Just my 2 cents - My wife says i just have to find something to work on.

Yachtworld lists the boat as "sale pending". Hmmm.

BTW: I ran into the same thing on survey. Mechanical survey was "extra". As was oil analysis. The stuctural survey only included visual inspection (pulling wires!- plus judgement on risers without pulling), running motor to WOT, and inspection with an IR gun at that point.
