I’m a new guy here who does most of his boating on Lake Erie or the Niagara River. I’m considering moving up to a larger boat and the one I’m looking at is a 1989 Sea Ray Weekender 300 with 730 hrs. on each engine that is in excellent condition. I haven’t test driven it yet but would like to know what can I expect for fuel mileage? If the engines haven’t yet been overhauled should I expect them to need it soon? Do these engines require a lot of maintenance? How much maintenance is there involved in owning a boat this size? Tomorrow I’m going to look at the boat a little closer and find out the history and look at the maintenance records. Is there anything special I should look for or be aware of?
I’m not sure I know all the correct questions to ask. Can anyone give me a little guidance? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It would probably be a good idea for us to know what engine and drive configuration the boat has :smt001

Aside from that, what size boat are you used to? Have you had twins before? Engine's, that is...

You'll probably find a lot of your basic questions have already been answered in other threads. Try using the search function.

Oh, go back and "edit" your other post. You can delete everything and then just type something like "deleted due to the clicker on my mouse got away from me" - you get the idea.

I currently own a 23’ Proline CC outboard but I’ve had experience with twin screw boats a very, very long time ago in South East Asia. I particularly wanted a twin screw boat because of it’s maneuverability and the fact that it has two engines.
I only looked at this boat very quickly because it is parked in the same marina I keep mine. Tomorrow I’m going back for a look closer and take it for a ride. Hopefully I can get the answers to all my questions. I just thought someone could give me some advise and helpful hints in what I should be looking for on boat like this.

Re: Considering buying a 89' Weekender 300

While I was thinking about buying the 1989 Weekender 300 my dealer call me to say he just brought in a 1985 Sea Ray Express 340 that was in “pristine condition” so I thought I’d go down to look at it. Well this boat was more then I expected. It is absolutely perfect. It has twin 350 Crusaders and the engine compartment is spotless as is the rest of the boat. The engines have 1000 hrs. It has all the usual stuff, AC/heat, Bimini enclosure, cockpit/tonneau cover, electronics (although a bit outdated) , genny, windless, flush toilet, microwave, bilge lights, lights under the swim platform, dual shore power cords, a brand new refrigerator and lots of things I'm forgetting to list . The upholstery is all new, new carpets, and all refinished wood and lots of custom work. The previous owner was a cabinet maker and made all kinds of custom cabinets w/drawers for fishing tackle and other things where there was just open cabinets.

I took it out for a sea trial and the engines purred like kittens. Everything worked as it should and the boat looks like new. The canvas is in excellent condition just like the rest of the boat.

I made an offer and with a little back and forth we agreed on a price, so needless to say I bought the boat on the spot.

I could have taken delivery tomorrow but didn’t get a chance to get my insurance binder so with Friday being a holiday, Monday will be the big day. Of course the dealer is giving me instructions on how to handle a large craft like this (my biggest was a 23 footer) and I got a new slip that I can pull straight in & out of.

Of course Monday seems like an eternity away but it will give me time to think up a name for my new boat. Wish me luck because I finally got a Sea Ray!
