Hi - we are former sailors who just sold our 34ft sailboat and are moving to power for a changed how we spend time on the water. We've settled on SeaRay 380 or 360 and looking seriously at a 380 that we are considering an offer for. Would appreciate insights, advice from other 380 owners from this era. Engines ar Merc 8.1 with 600+ hrs (no rebuild). We also like a Cruisers 3772 but leaning toward the SeaRay...thoughts?
Thanks, Mark

I ordered a 2001 380 Sundancer back in the day so I was able to configure it as I wanted the boat. In my opinion it was one of the best boats Sea Ray made back when they were really a great company. It was a perfect size and balance, the power plants really made the boat preform very well. The 8.1’s never gave me any problems through 5 years of ownership. I will say that a larger heavier boat with a fiberglass hardtop should have diesels for the best power to weight ratio. I have owned larger boats but would buy another 380 in good shape in a heartbeat. Good luck.

Thank you - appreciate the feedback. You obviously were loyal to the brand!

I have an 03. It’s a great boat. I have the 8.1s as well. Sea Ray parts are getting harder to come by. I get about .7 npg at 3600 rpm. PM me if you want more details

Thanks for the info - we just had survey done and almost all areas were rated positively, dry deck and hull, clean and dry bilges. Unfortunately engine inspection revealed some issues. Compression good on all cylinders and boat came up on plane easily, cruised nicely at 3300-3400 and did achieve 4100 rpms. Temps shot on 3/4 manifolds were over 200 so it seems they need to be done before we can accept the boat. Stuck trying to figure out whether to go forward as having trouble getting a certified Merc Mechanic there. Suggestions?

For me if you are sure it’s the manifolds they aren’t hard to do.
