I really need the collective wisdom you guys afford here, I'll try to be suscinct. While I have had my first year as a boater under my belt and have learned much (alot if that wisdom having come from you all), I have a situation. My boat is a '06 290 with 150 hours on it. I treat it with great respect. My mechanic I have though was terrific, you all will have to help me out with that perception. He had my boat at his yard all winter. My insurance company paid him $10k after my boat got loose from the mooring and gently ended on the beach. There was no visible damage (other than some fiberglass issues which were addressed with a fiberglass guy for another $10!). Still, he dismantled the outdrives (Bravo 3's) and I guess straigtened out what ever was problamatic down there. Being a novice, I could be wrong, but I really don't know if, other that realinging stuff, that there was much wrong there. He did charge me an extra $1200 to replace the starboard side boot as he found some rust in that area. Well, the boat was splashed yesterday, he left it at his slip and I had to collect it and bring it around about 8 miles to my mooring. The deep scratch on my pristine blue hull that was not there when I checked the boat before it left his yard (where I buffed and waxed it) is the least of the issues. I am already getting wordy here as I am a little emotional about this mess so I will make this short. The port side engine is overheating terribly (when we had a discussion about the manifolds, he said that there is no indication that they need replacement yet), the starboard side engine only gets up to 102 degrees, I was getting a warning (other than the overheating engine warning... I limped home on one engine) that may have been the CO. detector (the cabin door was open and a few times during the trip I stopped and opened the bilge) and there is way more water in, what had been a very dry bilge than I have seen since I figured out that I can't wash the cockpit with a hose! My mechanic suggested, when I emailed him, that: I have 'knee capped' him by not just letting him do what ever he wants with the boat (I did tell him this year that I needed to keep costs down, but when he told me that I needed that new boot, I said yes immediately, I have always defered to him if there are things that are of import), that I may need a tuneup on the engines (would the need for a tuneup cause the engines to run hot/cold) and that if I am getting water in the bilge (this may have just gotten in there during the spashing, I will go down to the boat shortly to see if it is still afloat!) and that I should bring it to a marina and have it hauled because he is having a baby and is busy. I kind of felt that if a mechanic has taken off the outdrives that if there is a leak, that certainly would be the first possible reason. I need to qualify that I have been horribly gracious to this buy, have let him work on my boat after he is done with everyone else, have paid him not just promptly, but early! Well, I am sorry for the length of this and I guess I really needed to vent, I don't really think there is much you fellas can say to me here but to suck it up! Splash day hasn't really been all that much fun...
