Hello all, Wanted to run something by everyone. Bought my 230 sundancer with a 4.3. previous owner said it overheated on a sea trial. I removed the lower unit to replace the impeller and found the flappers in there (so I know I need to replace those as well). One bolt of the water housing won't come out and the lower seems like it seen better days. My question is what are your thoughts on just replacing the lower unit or should the complete drive be replaced? No water found in the oil when I drained the lower. What to look for to know to replace the upper as well?
Thanks

Depending on the model of your stern drive you might want to checkout SEI Marine and get a whole new unit.

I've had an SEI drive on my boat for more than 5 years without an issue. It's a solid product. I really can't answer your question without more info though. But, SEI also sells just the lower unit as well.

+1 if I were in the market for a new drive I would definitely look at SEI before buying a new OEM or even a used drive.

I'm looking at replacing both lowers this next year as well.

They are both eaten up as well as cavitation plate broken on one of them.

I'm glad mine are Alpha's and pretty reasonably priced.
