I found a high five mercury prop. How do I confirm it will be compatible with my outdrive/engine (alpha 1, 5.0 MPI)?

I tried mercury.com and was prompted for name and password.

The prop is a 48-821154-17P. My concern is that this came off an outboard mercury motor.

Thanks.

I think it's a little overpropped(too low of a pitch). I would think a 19" would suit you better. Throw it on and see what your WOT is. My guess is that it'll be around 5200 if your engine is tuned up a running properly.
Best of luck

You need to make sure it is for the 4.75 inch gearcase. The easiest way to see weather it fits is to try it on or measure the hub.

We boat at around 3600 - 4000 feet elevation.

Right now I'm running a 19 pitch ss 3-blade prop. I don't run WOT, I usually run around 3200 rpms which puts me at around 20 - 25 mph with the 19. I'm trying to get propped where I can get up on plane and stay there while maneuvering at around 15 - 18 mph to pull little kids around on a tube. Thinking if I drop back to a 17p, then I'll be able to run higher rpms and lug the engine less the way we boat.

The High Five will give you that better hole shot even in the 19" pitch. Even though you don't run WOT ever, it's the baseline to establish how your boat is propped, geared and running properly. If you stick with the 17" you won't be lugging the engine for sure but you may be running the engine at higher RPMs unnecessarily. Either way, best of luck.

I'm guessing this is a 5.0 carb. If so make sure it is tuned locally at the elevation you plan to use it. Even tuned properly high elevation eats up horsepower. Maybe the 19 will give better hole shot maybe not. It depends on weather you have the available hp to take advantage of the extra blades. If there's not the hp to spin it up fast enough then hole shot will suffer. When adding blades it is recommended to go down in pitch. It would be good to know the max wot trimmed out with a light load. This will let you know where the prop falls in your powerband so you can choose the most effective one.

The 19" High Five will give a better hole shot than the standard 3 blade 19" prop. It won't be better than the 17" High five.

At this time, I am not really too worried about the hole-shot as we don't ski or wakeboard.

As I stated earlier, I am looking for better handling and maneuverability while staying on plane at a slow speed. I have a 6 and 7 year old that I pull on a tube. If we can stay on plane at 15-18 mph, then I can safely pull them around through our own wake and chop and give the kids a bouncy fun ride at not too fast of a speed.

The engine is a 5.0l MPI (260 hp I think), so I am guessing I have enough horsepower for either the 19 or 17 3 or 5 blade prop. What do you guys think?

I will test the WOT this week with just me and see where the rpms settle with the 19p vengeance prop.
