Hey Capt Rusty here with not good news.....
I have been traveling the East Coast more times than I can remember, and like a lot of you I make it a point when traversing the East Coast to stop at my most favorite marina ever, Coinjock Marina NC.
I can go on and on about the service and relationship I have with the Coinjock crew and that consist of Louis the owner, JD my main man running the docks, and last but not least my buddy Norman who takes my calls, and always seems to find room for me, even when they are booked up tight.
For years upon years after dealing with rough seas, I have called that place at the last minute and Norm always said, 'keep coming Rusty, we'll find room for you or we'll make room". My friend Norman passed away today, and even though I am in Ft. lauderdale right now awaiting approval to enter Bahamian waters tomorrow, I am hanging my head low at this passing.
I called my friends at Coinjock today to say how bummed I was with this news, and to remind them just how important Norman was to me, and I am sure many others.
I can not tell you how many times I have dealt with conditions that most would have never left the dock on, and it was Norm's voice on the phone that brought calmness to my soul after dealing with rough seas. He was the one who put my mind at ease knowing that friends were waiting on me, and all would be okay.
To you Norm, I salute you and thank you for nearly 20 years of serenity to this sailor. Rest in peace my friend, I WILL truly miss you!!
So, so proud to have known you and to call you my friend.
With total respect and admiration,
Capt. Rusty Higgins
