Looking for advise on how to remove the UPPER portion of the "U" shaped seating on my 380DA. Most of the fasteners are easy to find, the troubling one for me will be the starbord side of the aft seatback. Boats still wrapped and on the hard so it looks like a few more weeks before I get to pull the seats for recovering.

Hi,
Searay has a few different ways to secure the back to the cockpit. One way they secure it is to through bolt it from the top into the lazarette. To remove this type, take your seat cushions out and look for black tabs with screws, remove the screws and go into the lazarette and look for threaded bolts with nuts & washes. Remove everything and the seat will lift up and come out.

Another way they secure the seat back is similar to the above, however, there are no nuts on the bolts, the bolt just sits in a drilled hole. The seat just lifts up and out.

Another way they secure the seat back is they put a screw in between a seam of the seat back. Look for a screw and finishing washer tucked inside the cushion seam of the seat back.

Good luck,
Bow Tie

I have screws holding the seat back that are accessible from the lazzerette and from the storage compartment below the seat adjacent to the helm. My question is how do i get to the screws at the starboard side? Do I need to remove the engine room vent on the side of the hull? Big job if thats the case.

Not sure about your specific boat, but on my '97 400 I could reach every nut that was fastened to the bolts. But it required removing both access panels on the port and starboard side of the lazarette, and then crawling into the tiny little access on the starboard side of the cockpit, duct taping a 2' long pipe to a socket wrench, and lots of four-letter words. I don't think you have to remove the engine room vent; you just have to find the nuts and get creative with how to reach them.

Here's a picture I dug up from when I did it last year.

The starbord panel in my lazzerette has the shore power, dock water connection, TV connection and a hose bibb, not an easy one to remove. I did see a post once before from some one showing their new upolstery in the same boat. Can't locate it now that i need it.

Would you happen to have an update? I have the same issue with the starboard side of the back cockpit cushion on my 2003 380DA. It seems like there is a screw behind the cushion from the lazerette, but behind the power / water / cable / phone panel.

Thanks
John

Actually there are two nuts located behind the panel, they are the same as the ones in the lazerette, the first one is simple to reach the second one requires a person with a very long reach, think orangutan, lol. fortunately I have a 6'-7" neighbor who was able to reach it. there are also two more nut and bolt connections at the very end of the bolster that are accessed from the cockpit side. Not too difficult if you remove the seat base.
