At last I have the fridge installed in the cockpit where the ice maker used to be. We have never used the icemaker. Since we don’t drink the water from our water tank there is no way we are using ice made from that water either. So last fall I located a fridge with suitable dimensions to fit in the ice maker space. Early this spring we tossed the old ice maker out and finally I have the project completed. It has worked great for us – we can grab a cold drink while underway or when at anchor and wet from swimming without tracking down into the cabin. It also frees the main fridge up from storing beverages.

Nice looking install. I too thought about replacing mine with a fridge, but we use the icemaker a lot. I shock the tank a couple of times a year and also installed filters that go to the ice maker, so the ice is nice and clean. But it's good to know that a fridge will fit too.

What did you do with the old icemaker? I wouldn't make ice with tank water but at the slip, when hooked up to dockside water, we go through ice as fast as the thing can make it.

Anyone else ever drink from a garden house when they were a kid? ;-)

Glen, Nice looking install you did. .. Is there a drink in there for me.

Ron,
We pulled it out early spring while still on the hard. I left it out with a "free" sign on it and it was gone the next day.

Nice fit.

Ironic though: I use the icemaker so much that I wouldn't mind having a second one!

+1

Glen, I have one of these and the ice tastes good! (well...it means it has no taste!)

I'll bet it was gone that fast! Those stupid things are over $1000.00. I think a lot of people don't replace them with icemakers (when they fail) b/c of cost. Anyway, nice work and enjoy the fridge!

Great job. My boat had the option for ice maker or fridge but it came with the fridge which I find very handy in the cockpit area.
