Cockpit cover

With a large cockpit cover you run the risk of having the canvas move up and down as you tow it. It can damage seats where it rubs and it abrades the Sunbrella. I've seen male/female snaps in one piece. You can use your cover snapped to the top of the windshiield for storage and if you want privacy at the dock you can snap a windshield cover on at night that is secured with female snaps at the top and at the bottom with the windshield wipers.

Matthew- that would be great. Would love to see the pics. Putting new snaps around the base of my windshield frame is not an option for me so hopefully those frame snaps will fit. Need to see which size will work. 3/4 or 7/8 as those are the only 2 i've seen.

I have had both on the top of windshield and below windshield. It goes on nice and easy on the top of the windshield, but wile towing, if it rains, everthing inside chould get wet, Plus windshield chould be full of bugs splat. Plus something else chould happen, some rock chould hit it and brake that high dollar windshield.

I just know, I did not like all my camping gear getting wet when driving down the highway in a hard rain. that did not happen with the windshield covered.

:thumbsup: ten four on the rain and rock chips+bug splatter

Why would a boat of this size even be ordered new by a dealer without a cockpit cover? Seems like a strange thing to leave off as a standard feature given the cost of these boats new. I can't imangine not having a cover for the boat when the camper is not on.

I hear you! I don't want to leave it sit out in the open sun all summer. For one, I have to clean it every time I want to take it out (birds, dirt, etc.) and two I'll have to wax it more often. And there is a lot to be waxed in that cockpit.

The only thing I would be concerned about using those frame snaps is that the cover may be sized to use the snaps at the base of the windshield and that couple of inch differences may make the cover not fit properly...might be a little "loose" around the windshield if you use the frame snaps.

I have the factory cockpit cover on my 2003 240DA. I goes all the way over the windshield. Yes, it is a bit of a pain to lean over my large windshield( my 2003 windshield is larger than years prior) to snap the front down. It seems like on the hotter days that winshield is even bigger. LOL. On the other hand I would never have the cover any other way. The benifit of having the cover protect the windshield and keep the sun out of the cockpit is HUGE. I like to keep my boat perfect and if I had a cover that snapped at the top of the windshield the extra wear and tear on the glass and seats would kill me. That being said, I cant imagine having to put the cover on a 290, it would be close to impossible. Like everything else that we have gotten used to on these boats, after 5 or 10 times it would be alot EZier. My next step up will be a 320, does anyone have any feedback on putting one of those monster covers on?
With regard to the snaps located in the fiberglass, I agrees with Cincy, not only do they provide a places for water to leak in, they make it harder to wax and polish that area. I have replaced my snaps twice and resealed them since i have had my boat as preventative maint. I also did not like how the snaps tarnished over time. You may not have a choice. Cant you drill and screw snaps into the winshield frame, or does that open even more cans of worms? Ed

I can reach down and over the windshield to get them snapped then as you go aft you unroll the cover as you snap along the sides.

+1 - works like a charm. Takes me only 2-3 minutes to put on the cover this way and no fumbling on the deck or dock. However, my snaps are below the windshield into the FG.

Mine came with the cover when I bought it new. I now have 4 seasons on it, and over 60k trailering miles on the rig. I tow it with the cover on at hi-way speeds and no issues with wear. The cover was made with the interior in mind. There are felt patches sewn on the underside wherever the cover comes into contact with vinyl to prevent rub wear.

Each season I give it a thorough cleaning and recoat with 303 Hi-Tech fabric guard and 303 Aerospace Protectant.

Mine has snaps at the bottom of the winshield. They have little clips that keep them in the track. Works great and we use the cover all the time.

OK. The boat was delivered yesterday. The snaps are across the top of the windshield - not the bottom. Also, the haulers took off the cockpit cover for the trip. It was not what I wanted, but I didn't know they did it until it was here. Anyway, there was not any road debris inside. The boat is too tall, I suppose. If you still would like pics of it let me know and I'll try to get some. FYI, the cockpit cover uses some of the same snaps that the Isenglass and camper canvas use - all the way around the boat.
