Engines
Cummins 450Cs, 9KW Onan Generator, 40HP Yamaha for tender.
My stereo works fine and cabin speakers work fine, but I can’t understand how to turn the cockpit speakers on. From what I remember, when I was test driving the boat when bying it, the situation was opposite. I got the cockpit speakers on but cabin speakers were off. I’ve tried searching documentation and the site, but I can’t find the answer to the puzzle. I’ve turned all accessories related breakers and switches, including at the helm, amplifier switch as well. I also tried adjusting fader, but no luck. I feel like there must be some kind of switch that I can't find.

I have Clarion XMD3 CD player, DCZ625 6 Disc Changer and M301RC Remote control

Could anyone with similar setup give me some hints?

Greatly appreciate your input.
Alex.

not sure about your boat, but:
is there mute switch on dash? (may have speaker sign on it)
Find amp for cockpit speakers and check fuses on amplifier

boatmailster,
The dash has one switch with speaker on it, I was told this is for the amp. When I did some testing having turning on one switch at the time, it looked like this was the main switch. If it's off, the stereo is not coming on at all. I know of only one amp, which is in the cabin, in on of the small cabinets under the starboard lounge. It has a light and it was lid.

When I was trying to change fade and set it more to rear, I can hear mostly the "sssssss" sound and very low valume from the cockpit speakers. So, I'm thinking that it could be another amp that's not on, but I don't know where it is.

Fuses, is the next thing I'll have to go over.

DPVANDY01, the items you've mentioned I did turn on.

Thanks,
Alex.

On my boat - the DC breaker for stereo amp is what controls the cockpit audio for my 320! All else as per the other comments - main "kill" switch also at the helm - shuts everything down. I would look at the amp - on our 320 it's in the right side base storage cabinet under the dinning seat - make sure the ampi is getting power when you switch on the amp. If not, you can start backtracking from there. Also - just as a guess - I'm too new to know - does the amp have any other locations for a fuse or breaker - in the engine compartment? I think if you trace the amp power - you'll get very close. Good Luck!

The rear speakers in the cockpit, are connected to the sub woofer outputs on your clarion.
You have to change the volume set and sound output in the setup menu. (read manual)
If they disconnected the batteries and your clarion was complete off the power the radio goes to factory settings...

Success Peter.

There's a weird setting on the radio (something to do witht he subwoofer output) that needs to be changed in order for the cockpit speakers to work. I used to have a cheatsheet on that radio which I had up on SRO. If I find it on my computer, I'll PM you. You can also try calling Clarion customer support. In my case, the dealer didn't know anything about it...

Don't forget the obvious - There's a switch (on the 340) at the top of the companion way stairs that says "cockpit" on it. There's one for "cabin" too. It's a way to select whether you want to hear the music inside, outside, or both.

If that answer is too obvious, my apologies.

I just talked to SR on another subject and I asked about the speaker thing also. On my boat I get cabin separatly or cabin and cockpit combined, I can't get music in the cockpit without having it in the cabin also. SR verified this was how it works in my boat and other models, he didn't get more specific. I had always figured I was to stupid to figure it out but now it appears the SR designers are the ones with the mental deficit.

I could make sarcastic remarks about SR but I don't want to hear the -what do you expect, these things are made by people not robots- excuse.

Hey Woody, can't you fade it to the 'rear', which on our boat relays the audio output to the cockpit speakers? The fade button should be on the radio itself. n That's how we get music in the cockpit but not in the cabin. We have this as our normal set-up as often people are sleeping or watching tv in the cabin.

Yes you're right - dash mute is power on/off to cockpit amp (but still mute:) )
If you have a little time to play with - switch rca jacks behind your clarion head unit (switch cabin with cockpit) to be sure that amp is still good. If amp works - find your clarion manual and within settings enable head unit output to "rear" - with no power head unit defaults to "sub-woofer"

John, I have a feeling that the answer to my puzle is obvious, I just don't see it. Are you referring to switches like for the cabin light (as you enter the cabing 2 switches on the left hand side)?
So far I haven't seen any switches like cabin or cockpit.

rbihn2,
I checked the amp under the seat and it had green light on. I assumed that this is good enough.

Peter,
I think this is what happened, b/c my boat was winterized and batteries were out. So, looks like factory settings are ignoring the cockpit speakers. I haven't seen yet in the manual how to set it back.

Set it to REAR...as per the instructions below...

Setting LOW PASS FILTER

This function allows you to set the low-pass filter
for sub-woofer output.
• The tactory default setting is "REAR".
1. Press and hold the [T] button for 1 second or
longer to switch to the adjustment selection
display.
2. Press the [<~] or [~>] button to select "SW
LPF" ..
3. Turn the [ROTARY] knob to select the
setting. Each lime you lurn the [ROTARY]
knob, the setting changes in the lollowlng
order:
REAR ~.LPF 50 ~ LPF 80 ~ LPF 120
4. Press the [T] button to return to the previous
mode.

Thanks Gerry, I'll try it this weekend.

gerryb has the solution. I had the exact same thing happen to me after the spring launch on my 280. I reset the lpf to "Rear" and bam the cockpit speakers started blaring.

Gerry,
You're the man. The receipe worked like a charm. I found it in the manual, but I wouldn't know that this is what controls the rear speakers.

Thanks a lot for helping out,
Alex.
