I have a 1986 '300' that is in excellent shape! The boat, "Seldom Sane" is kept at Lake Stockton, MO. and remains in her slip year around but for outdrive maint. every other year. She's in a 'covered' dock area and not subjected to UV or the elements, owing to her very good condition. (In addition to the hard work of my terrific First Mate and the previous owners).

I now find that the cockpit carpeting needs replacement. I have located what seems to be a pretty good replacement but the vendor, Custom Marine Carpet, requires I make a 'template' in order for them to make the replacement carpeting. (The old carpeting has been thrown out but didn't fit properly anyway). The company seems to have measurements and templates for many older vessels but don't have anything for an '86 SeaRay!!! (Odd).

Does anybody have a simpler solution like factory mesurements or actual carpeting vs making a template of the deck???

Thanks!! "Seldom Sane"

If the old carpet didn't fit I wouldn't use the template it was cut from! If it was a factory template, then you'll have to create one out of butcher paper or something so that you can all of the dimensions just right. Read through some of the recent threads, someone just had the same experience and posted pictures. I'm sure they will come along! Their boat looked great afterward! I think they used: http://www.snapincarpet.com/

Thanks Sundancer!

I was hoping to avoid creating a template. I'll check the sources you suggest.

Check out www.corinthianmarine.com too, they use a Vinyl ribbed backing on ALL their carpets, as opposed to the black rubber stuff that deteriorates over time.

I elected to make a template and sent it off to 'Custom Marine Carpet'. www.snapincarpet.com
In less than a week I have the finished product ready to go. We're going to see how it fits this weekend. I'll try to take some photos to post next week.

I'm curious if you got the grey ribbed backing or the lighter colored wavy backing or the black honey comb backing? I know they offer all three styles.
