We have an 110V AC outlet on the starboard side of the cockpit, near the captain's seat that appear to be dead. We have checked breakers, fuses, etc., trying to find out why we can't get power from this outlet. Is there something that I am missing --- a switch or something that needs to be turned on? Thanks in advance.

Have you checked all the GFI outlets down below? Most likely one of those aren't working either and it needs to be reset. Probably the one in your head in the cabinet above the sink.

Ditto osd9. Plus, the outlets are all wired through a breaker in the power panel. If you have power to the other outlets and not to the one in the cockpit, pull it and see if the wires have come loose or off the studs. If it is not in a weather proof box, it may not be connected at all as a safety precaution.

Usually the culprit..........my head GFI affects cabin loads like refer/TV and the aft berth GFI affects cockpit receptacle.

Thanks. I'll check the aft berth GFI. I am able to plug into the outlet in the galley and the head -- no problems there, but didn't think to check the aft berth GFI.

If its not a GFI in the aft pull the outlet and test to see if you are getting power to it? If there is power, it would indicate a bad outlet.

I had a similar problem. Turned out when they installed my bilge heater they pulled a leg off the cockpit oulet to run the heater and broke the chain. Had to get them to put it back in the loop.

Unless I'm missing something, there are 2 GFI outlets on my boat (one in the head and one in the galley). Both have the green light on and appear to be working. The one in the head however doesn't "pop" when I push the test the button. Although there is power to the outlet, I assume that this is not good. The outlet in the cockpit and the outlet in the aft berth do not have power. Any other suggestions?

I think I follow you. Have you pulled the cockpit outlet and put a meter on the wires to see if there is power there? I am not sure how the chain flows in the 280. In our 290 power runs from the galley outlet to the cockpit outlet then to the head outlet. If you can determine the sequnce you can follow it and figure out where the break occurs. I called sea ray and got them to tell me the wiring order which gave me the info I needed to determine a leg was missing from the cockpit outlet. If the GFI is not functioning properly you may want to replace it.

I didn't have tools/meter with last weekend to diagnose the problem. I just pulled the wiring diagram and it looks like power goes through 2 circuits
1. Galley GFI -> V-berth outlet (this circuit is OK).
2. Head GFI -> Cockpit outlet -> Aft cabin outlet (there must be a break somewhere between the head GFI and the cockpit outlet)

I will do some additional diagnosis when I return to the boat on Friday.

You have probably already checked the GFI which will knock them all out, but I have a similar issue with a dead outlet above the self behind my galley table. Tried to find a wiring diagram for the 110 w/o luck. Thought it might be fed from the outlet in the mid-cabin, and it may, but that connection was powered and tight.. If you find out where to get wiring diagrams, please let me know.

Good luck with yours!

You can download the manual at searay.com. Use the following link http://www.searay.com/owners_manuals.asp The manual that I downloaded for my boat had the wiring diagrams. Good luck.
