I would like to install cock pit air. Can I tap in to my existing thru hull strainer for water.
There are already two a/c units in the cabin ?

Thanks,

Ron

Ron:

The PO of my boat added cockpit air and just installed a "T" in the line leading from the thru-hull. I should note that the boat only had one A/C unit prior to installing the cockpit unit, and the thru-hull is in the engine room, directly under the cockpit.

If you have 2 already - would it not be an idea to put in a big split unit A/C in the engine room - and feed all the condensers from that? It will give you a lot lower noise in the cabins - and you can dimension better and mange 1 water intake much better!

The "problem" is how much water can you "pull" from the intake vs how much water does the A/C need to cool all 3?

If you stay with "one intake -> 3 A/C units" you might want to get a larger pump - especially if you want to run them at the same time.

Ron,

You might want to review my thread on the bridge A/C installation: http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/54486-420DB-–-Bridge-A-C-and-Heat-Installation?highlight=

Somewhere in the middle of the thread (pages 16-20) we had a good discussion on the options, which included the T-ing off existing strainer. It seams like what you're trying to accomplish is similar to my project (except the bridge part). I'm sure you'll find good info in my thread.
