Coast Guard fires on boat in Potomac

CNN reported that the firing of shots came from a police scanner and it is unconfirmed.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S. Coast Guard tried Friday to prevent a boat from entering a security zone on the Potomac River not far from the Pentagon, where President Obama was at an event commemorating the September 11 attacks.
There were reports on police scanners of shots being fired, but those reports could not immediately be confirmed.

Was it a regal gasser bridge boat?

Hey, you know that guy that had Air Force 1 do a low altitude fly over of the statue of liberty? Well, now our guberment arranged a Coast Guard training exercise at the same time as POTUS was driving past.

Nothing to see here. Keep walking.

"Update at 10:27 a.m. ET: The AP quotes the Coast Guard as saying training was being conducted in Potomac River moments before Obama motorcade crossed."

I’m actually far more fascinated following the story of Capt Art and the sinking of his Lady M 2001 Carver 570 Voyager Pilothouse.

I feel there are lessons to be learned and am glad the losses were limited to ‘things’ meaning there were no fatalities.

Too bad its unfolding at the site we are not allowed to discuss here however I understand Jim’s reasoning’s.

BTW, I check my high water alarm often and will check it again tonight.

I've been following that thread as well. I wish they would pull it up just to find out what happened!! Sounds like there were a series of events that allowed the "Swiss Cheese" theory to happen!

You guys keep that in mind when you are on the Potomac....USCG takes "no wake" zones very seriously....

I agree with you.

Even though we do not yet know the reason for the sinking I have already gone thru a mental exercise of “If I was in this situation I would have done step #1 then step #2” and so on.

So what's the penalty for fishing or crabbing in the channel?

No self respecting crab would live in that water (I wouldn't call it "fresh water" either)..... Fishing requires a license in DC water and you are supposed to take "precautions handling the fish and returning them to the water". Most of the fish cannot be taken for food (it's a long list). I guess you are supposed to wear gloves.....

If you don't have your license with you ($13) DC Harbor Patrol will confiscate your fishing equipment and write you a $50 ticket......I guess that is better than being shot at....

It makes you wonder about who comes up with this stuff....
