folks – hoping I might find some help here. This friday, my kohler 5E generator would start up and run for approximately 30 seconds and then shut down with a fault 'CO4' which I read as a carbon monoxide fault in the manual. Initially, I thought I needed to check the exhaust on the generator, however, on saturday, after being out for the afternoon, I had been tied up at least three hours, my CO alarm in the cabin began beeping every 30 seconds. In looking at the information, it seems as though I have reached my end-of-life on the unit and it needs replacement. It was approximately 7 years old.

So my question is as follows… Does anybody see a coincidence that my generator would start to fail on Friday with a 'CO4' code and then my xintex interior cabin CO detector would begin beeping its end-of-life on Saturday. I'm hoping that my generator is simply failing because of the faulty switch in the cabin. Would be most interested in everybody's thoughts.

If the Xintex CO detector in the cabin has a relay to shut down the generator (some do, some don't), that could be the cause of the problem. I would suggest you check the Xintex to see if it has the relay and then replace it.

I got an AF fault code. Gen would run a few seconds and quit. Turned out CO monitor had no power. I restored power to the CO detector and the Gen ran fine. The AF code is an auxiliary / emergency shut down for a source other than the gen itself. In my case. The gen and CO monitor are definitely linked.
