Try WD-40 and a paper towel or rag.

Safe and biodegradable makes it that much easier to work with

I have used engine degreaser with no known issues. Spray 9 works well too.

I use Castrol superclean and cut it with water and use a spray bottle and mop up with paper shop towels. I have not had any problems with this stuff harming bilge surfaces just keep it off your skin or it will de oil that as well.
