Clearwater to Sarasota

Hi Guys, thinking of doing my first overnighter on my 2003 340. Never having travelled on the ICW, what should I look at for route, places to stay, time and cost involved?

Its an easy 21/2 -3 hour run down the ICW. I usually go outside and takes 2 hours. The ICW gets narrow around Long Boat pass so follow the markers closely. I like the Moorings of Long Boat Key. Another popular place is Marina Jacks near downtown. The sea ray club usually goes down there several times a year.

Both accept transients. Here's a bit more, but be sure to check out their websites and other info you'll find online.

Longboat (on Longboat Key) is more of a private club feeling in a resort setting - the marina abuts a golf course. It's a beautiful spot but close to nothing on foot. Fixed piers.
Marina Jack is a world-class marina that is more of a Sarasota hub. Three restaurants on site, a very quick and easy walk to town and tons of restaurants. Superb floating concrete docks with big fairways and excellent facilities.

You can't go wrong in either spot - it just depends on what you're looking for. But those are the two to choose from.
