I have some fenders that were stored in my port side cabin locker where the leak was. They are coated with dried slime and brown gunk. Are there any home remedy tricks that people have found to work? I was wondering about scrubbing with soft scrub or something of the sort. If not, what specialty products work for this?

Soft scrub will work just fine.

I just bought some cleaning supplies for my boat this spring. I bought a cleaner called boat clean plus from http://www.auroramarine.com/

I have not used it on the boat yet but it and another product called boat scrub when mixed 50/50 do an amazing job. I used it tonight to clean a pot we use to cook dinner. Its Porcelain and it cleaned up very well, looks basically new. The person I bought it from also says he uses it for his power cord. Mine needs a good cleaning. check it out. They also make a deck wax which is pressure sensitive. It shines like wax but when you step in it it has grip so you don't fall down. It looks like amazing products but I have not put them on the boat yet. I will take some before and after pic and post them when I am done cleaning the boat and you can judge for yourself.

I have used this product on fenders, and shore power cords. This stuff removes black marks from fenders with ease. It also disolves road tar for those that trailer a boat.

Pffft...real men make them even dirtier.

You guys clean frikkin fenders?

After compounding, polishing, and waxing 45' LOA x 14' beam of Sea Ray 420DA from arch to water line, yes, I scrub the fenders to ensure they do not transfer tar from pilings and other stuff onto the hull.

I guess that makes me not a "real man"

Ya know I was just teasing, right?

After rafting up several times last year, I noticed marks on my hull and I found that mine and my neighbors dirty fenders were the cause :(. So I am looking at really cleaning my fenders nicely this year too. Manly OR NOT! :)

I use Acetone with a lot of clean rags. After you get them clean. You must use a coating of spray vinyl protector like Armor All.

Doggone it Gary,

You are right.
Let's get the deal done for Four Suns. I've got the checkbook out.
I can pick her up next week if that works for you.
Surveyor will be by tomorrow.
Sea Trial around 1:00 or so?

Anybody want to buy a pristine 03 420DA with C Series Cummins, with 520 hours on them?
Lovingly maintained.
And she comes with clean fenders. I don't know what boat bumpers are, but I will clean those as well if, in fact, she has some.

Actually... I am going to take the boat out tomorrow.

You can have her for $1.1M... and I'll take a trade... I'll give you 500K for your boat.

I put bumpers in the title as a joke, if you remember back a little ways there was a thread asking what people called them. To my suprise there seemed to be a few who described them as "bumpers" I think I may have to try the acetone first. They are really bad! I may have to attach pics if I think to take them.

I just finsihed cleaning all my fenders today. I tried everything form Spray 9, to bleach products, grease lighting etc. Nothing worked well.

I finally went the cabinet and used Lacquer Thinner. It worked really well on all my salvagable fenders. I have several fenders linning the dock horizontally and they were nasty. All but one cleaned up (non- salavable). I think the Acetone would probobly work but I did not have any, so I tried the thinner. I used many rags - as noted earlier. All of the fenders I will carry on the boat look close to new now.

I've used the spray on tire cleaner on the white ones of my old boat. I have Navy blue fenders now but haven't tried it on them yet. I'm not sure if it will etch anything on the colored ones, but it worked wonders on the white ones.

If you try it, try it on a small section before you go hog wild.

Mom and Dad called them bumpers too. I always figured them to be right, think about it. On a car they would be bumpers. they could "bump" something and be OK. A fender would be bent. Now a boat fender can be hit and survive. Wish I had one for my Cadillac. A fender that can be hit and not bend.
