Our 1982 Sundancer stays in a covered slip for the winter. May be due to the very wet spring we have had this year but the canvas top has developed mold discoloration on the inside. The canvas top stays up for storage, hatch cracked open to for venting and moisture absorbers are used. What do you guys recommend for cleaning the inside of the canvas to get rid of the mold?

Thanks.

Is it Sunbrella canvas? If so, you can use bleach. I pressure washed mine carefully. It comes out very clean.

I took my aft curtain to a commercial laundromat and used liquid Tide with Bleach. I added more bleach to the bottle and followed the instructions on the marchine. I used cold water and did not dry the curtain, just used the spin cycle which got the sunbrella damp. I reinstalled it and it was dry within 20 minutes. This is a 5 year old white curtain that is up all of the time when we are not using the boat. It still looks brand new except for where the stainless snaps are starting to cause wear on the canvas from wind.

It is not Sunbrella canvas. It is the original 1982 vinyl top. Great shape, just got black mold up on the inside. Thanks for the tips.

I'd still try and hit it with a pressure washer, lightly to remove the mold.

half a cup of bleach to 1 gal of cold to lukewarm water with 2 ounces of soap, I use Woolite. Soak spots and scrub. As recommended by Sunbrella.

West Marine sells a couple of types of mildew removers and they worked great on our 97 250 DA. When the boat was new to us (06) and we first put up the 2 biminis, we thought that we'd need to get new canvas -- the mildew on the vinyl underside was that bad.

But we decided to go the low-cost route first and tried the mildew remover. We were blown away by how the biminis went from looking like candidates for replacement to looking brand new. Spray it on, wait 20-30 min, rinse it off. Viola.

We also had a problem with mold on the canvas obviously on the underside where there is no sun. giff had a good suggestion and there are products that will require wiping and not scrubbing. We used to use bleach, but it takes either a power washer or some scrubbing. My wife and I have battled and tried a lot of different solutions. Until... the miracle... the spray "Tilex". (Available at any grocery store). You will hardly have to wipe.
