i have a 2000 340da. how do you remove the clarion speaker covers? i want to clean them.

If you don't see any screws...look on the bottom of the grill...I bet if you carefully pry around the edge they pop off.

Try twisting them counterclockwise. The grills that they have been using since at least. 2004 work that way.

The newer speakers are panasonics. I guess I would probably wait for someone with the same vintage boat to chime in before I did anything.

If you are referring to the cockpit speakers, then the covers twist off to provide access to the four mounting screws. When I replaced mine I found that the speakers had fallen apart. I replaced mine with Sony XS-MP1620W marine speakers ($64 a pair). They sound great and the size and screw locations match up exactly.

If you are looking to upgrade look at the MB-Quart NKD 116 speakers ($!60 a pair). These speakers are awesome, but you will need a little more power than the stock cockpit amp provides to get the most of them.

Ditto on April Fool's findings. My Clarions cones were completely disintegrated on both pairs. I installed Kicker KM613's and they absolutely rock! If you compare how flimsy the construction of the Clarion's are, you'd never replace them with the same thing! The Kicker's were $80/pr. which was a pretty good price for the quality.

Good luck!

The great thing about the Kicker KM613 speakers is that they have a 93db sensitivity and can handle 150 watts RMS. They will sound louder than your stock Clarion speakers and are able to handle a boat load of power if you choose to upgrade your cockpit amp. Be warned however that playing any speaker loud with the original equipment amp could damage the speakers because of the distortion generated at high volumes. I took a good look at the kicker's but decided not to buy them because they did not match the other two speakers in the cockpit. Should have just bought 4 of them and explained to the admiral that it was all about esthetics.

Search for "stereo" on this site and you will find a wealth of good information, Best of luck.

The Clarion Speaker covers twist off CLOCKWISE on my 260DA. I just removed mine this week because all the mounting screws had fallen out of one speaker.

Where did you buy the Kickers?

The one in my arch is inopperable and I've tried several times to twist the cover off. I think I consistently went clockwise with no lock, I'll give counter a go today.
