Is there a way to put remote sensors to the Clarion XMD3 out in the cockpit for use with the IR Remote? In other words, can you hard-wire an extension to the IR remote receiver to the Clarion head unit? I just ordered another hard-wired remote last week that I plan on putting near the top of the ladder on the swim platform, but it would be cool to be able to use the IR remote from the beach.

I've never seen one offered....I wonder how many of those IR remotes wind up as floaters...

Why not just make a small hole in the transom shower locker and leave the remote danging there as a teather control?

A small unattached mounting plate for this control could be made from Starboard for a more finished look.

Or add a small watertight bulkhead connector at a "hidden" location for the teather control, then cut and splice the connectors in series.

I am 99% sure that the XMD3 does not have IR remote capability.

If it or any other unit that does have IR remote control, there are aftermarket add on kits that will allow wireless remote control that are waterproof and float. Designed to be clipped to your ski vest to control tunes while skiing, wake boarding watever...

That should work but not with an XMD3. I have the same head unit, if you figure a way to do it, please let us know...Dan

I replaced my stock Clarion unit with a Sony head unit. I bought the CDX-M30. It came with an IR remote. I also hard wired two remotes, one near the steering wheel, and one near the swim platform ladder. It was not too expensive. The MSRP on the radio was 169. I have two different wired remotes. The RM-X11M has no display and retails for 99. The 55 has a LCD display and retails for around 130. Of course everything can be found cheaper. I have been very pleased with the setup and how everything runs. I got the wireless remote wet. The battery corroded. I wiped it down, put in a new battery, and it works like new. Now I keep the remote in a small ziploc bag!

I've often wondered why they did'nt put a radio remote on the streering wheel like they do on my jeep (my 99 doesnt have a remote on the dash)
