Clarion Cockpit Remote Control

I have an XMDA-1 (?) unit that has 2 M101RC remote controls - one on the helm dash and other in the cockpit wall. Neither remote works.

I am guessing the new remotes don't work with the older units. So, to replace the remotes, I have to get a new head unit as well?

Had the same problem, only one remote. It was the connection at the back of the player had come loose. SR had not installed enough slack in the cable. Cut a zip tie and it was good to go.

ywljacket, I have the same XDM1 unit in the cockpit and was wondering if you have your Direct TV (For XM radio) connected to it? I hope this isn't a thread hijack, but I knew we both have the same eqip. My Direct TV feeds my Bose System down below and we listen to the XM all the time, the Admiral wants now the sound from the XM to play thru our cockpit. Have you thought about how to accomplish this?

The Directv on my boat feeds the Bose below as well.

I haven't looked at it for the cockpit. Interesting idea, though. I had actually been thinking of getting an XM receiver to plug into the bridge stereo, because I really liked the XM on the previous boat.

So far in my time on this boat, I have been 'sidetracked' with family and friends aboard, and haven't had much time to do the 'guy-stuff' that I've wanted to do.

Last weekend, I found some burnt out bulbs (cockpit lights and a nav light), so that'll be the Friday night maintenance thing. Saturday, I'll have to rewire the Directv to use all 3 receivers, instead of the one that is wired now. That'll require a few extra coax cables, and some trial and error.

Oh yeah, and my wife bought an LCD TV for the salon that she expects for me to have installed in the next week, before we take our first real trip away in 2 weeks. Once that's in, I want to run video cables to the salon from the E120 on the bridge. I am also thinking of putting a cockpit camera on the underside of the radar arch, so I can monitor salon comings and goings while underway.

And, I'll check the radio connections, and hope for now that fixes me. While I'm there, I'll see if there any auxiliary inputs that could be used for the Directv? I haven't read the manual well on the stereo yet.

All in all, though, it beats the hell out of watching cartoons or old westerns on Saturday afternoons!

I was thinking about the same thing-then said it would be dumb to pay for XM on a "second" reciever, when It is all ready coming to the boat via Direct TV and we are paying for that in our monthly bill. See what you can find from your end and I will work it from this end. Two weeks away on the boat-how nice-where are you cruising too? Hope your enjoying that beauty-sounds like you are. Hey get to work on that flat screen would ya! Good idea on the camera interfaced to the E120 screen, I have seen that you can even hook up your direct TV to that and split screen them (or quad-screen), back to work-I don't need that! :smt017

wish2fish-thanks for the input, I went back and read the thread and now I get it! (I think). What do I need to buy to accomplish this? Is the 16 pin connector something I need to purchase to plug into the the back of my Clarion? If you walk me thru it, I can follow directions...Thanks

I haven't had time yet to look at the Bose closely. Are there outputs on there that you run to the stereo?

Also - the E120 has 4 video in connectors, and 1 VGA out connector. With an LCD, you can run from the VGA out on the E120 to the VGA in on the LCD. My wife, of course, bought an LCD w/o a VGA in, so I'm looking into a converter to do that.

Also, the TV output can be cable to one of the video inputs, so whatever is on in the salon can be watched on the E120. Another video in can be cabled to the cockpit camera, so that can be spilt-screened and monitored as well. For me, the cockpit cam could serve 2 functions - backing into the slip by myself, to help me see the corners better (though they are pretty visible), and monitoring what is going on in the cockpit whilst underway.

If I work this just right, I can have about 100 million cables that are completely untraceable, and if they ever go bad, I can pay someone thousands of dollars to trace them and repair them.

wish2fish - I had the same question - where does that plug go?

oh yeah - not going away for 2 weeks - in 2 weeks, we are going away, but only for 3 nights, to Captiva Island. We were going for a week, but I have a presentation at work, so we had to cut it short.

In July, we are going (I hope - am planning) to the Keys for about 8 days. My wife wants to go to the Bahamas in the Fall, after hurricane season. That'll take about 10 days - not sure if I can take that much time off at once yet. With this boat, though, we will be doing 2-3 night long weekends all summer long.

That's what I will have to do - check for an audio out from my Bose to my stereo. I will have to pull my Bose and take alook next time I'm at the boat, It's snowing here today by the way. Your trip to Captiva sounds great- are you staying at the South Seas Marina, We went thru there at New Years in a CenterConsole I rented and the place looked great-Lots of big boats and a nice golf course also.
Have fun. I will try to get this one figured out and get back with you when I do.

You don't need to buy the 13pin DIN connector but I did as I thought it would make it easier to disconnect if needed. You can insert stiff wire directly into the back of the radio. The diagram below show the male side of the plug so you would reverse it for the female side on the back of the radio. That is pins 5 & 9 would be on the right.

Read this thread on Planet Nautique as it explains a lot of the details

I trashed my remote two weeks ago, (stuffed the bow, blew out the isinglass and soaked the helm). The only source I found was the following:

www.boatsunlimitedny.com

The order number was:

ITEM 001: M301RC-R 001 174.99 174.99
Clarion Remote Control for use with XMD3-RET

I placed the order on the 12th and have not seen the item yet so I do not know if they really have it.

I have the Bose operator's manual at home here in front of me.

The connectors on the back are:
AM antenna
FM antenna
3 sets of regular input plugs - 1 labelled Aux for an external CD changer or input (I'm thinking the Clarion plugs in there), and 2 sets labelled video input for connecting to a tv or dvd.
2 speaker zone connections
2 sets of plugs which work together for 1 tape deck
an a/c power plug, and one that looks like it's labelled serial data.

I'm not sure what all is plugged into the back of it now. I have a cabin stereo system separate from the bridge that is plugged into it, and 1 tv. your setup might be a little different.
