I have a 2001 Sea Ray 270DA that came from the factory with a Clarion XMA1 marine stereo, dash mounted wired remote control, 400 watt Clarion amp, 8 each 6 inch speakers and a 10 inch sub woofer. I do not have the manual or the wiring diagram for this unit. It worked perfectly the last time I used the boat in November 2010. I stored the boat on its trailer inside a heated building over the winter. When I used the boat the first time in the spring of 2011, the Clarion XMA1 would not turn on. I returned it for repair, but was told the processor was bad and it could not be repaired. Go figure.

I bought a new Clarion CMD7 to replace the XMA1. The rectangular white plastic 16 pin "female" connector that came with the original Sea Ray installed XMA1 and that was wired into the boat by Sea Ray is identical in size and shape and will perfectly plug into the "male" connector on the rear of the new CMD7.

I know that the 13.8 volt (+) power input pin and the negative (-) power pin are the same on both units. The connectors on the rear of the two units are identical in size, shape, as are the number and spacing of the pins. Once again I do not have the wiring diagram for the XMA1 so I cannot compare the two units.

Can I just plug the existing 16 pin connector that was used on the XMA1 that Sea Ray wired into the boat's amp and speakers into the rear of the new Clarion CMD7 without having to rewire everything?

Over the weekend I was able to answer my own post. If anybody has an older Sea Ray (mine is a 2001) with the Clarion XMA1 or similar Clarion stereo receiver / CD player and it quits and is not repairable, the new Clarion CDM7 stereo receiver / CD player has the exact same rectangular, white plastic, 16 pin connector as the older unit. If yours craps out as mine did, there is no need to rewire all the speaker hook-ups Sea Ray originally installed to the amp etc. You do not need to reqire the new 16 pin connector that comes with the new Clarion. Just plug the 16 pin connector from the old stereo into the new Clarion CDM7 and away she goes, with absolutely NO modifications.
