I just switched out the XMD1 and the DC625 CD for a CMD6, Clarion USB extensions x 2 (one for cockpit and the other for in the cabin), MW1 extension and a new DZV625 CeNet ready CD player. I have a 2003 340DA and the XMD1 and C-Bus 625 were standard. The placement was a breeze because the newer CD player is identical in all ways to the older DC625. It fits in the exact location. I know everyone says go purely with an ipod but I have a ton of CD's and I'm not going to sit and transfer them over to MP3's and the ipod. I'd rather just bring 6 and let them play for an afternoon. I also have an extra cartridge so I can bring along 6 more all ready to go. Having the MW1 and the USB extension at the helm is awesome. The CMD6 comes with a remote and it can control the radio through a sensor pick up in the MW1 so the handheld radio remote works perfect when sitting in the salon having a drink and then wanting to change the radio or CD. The MW1 also allows you to se what's on the ipod and scan thru your songs. Overall, I'm so glad I throughly researched my options and I think I ended up with exactly the set up I wanted. I would definitely recommend the Clarion system higher than all others. It's amazing sounding. The only difficulty (not really difficult just labor intensive) was opening my old wired remote hole up to 3 inches for the MW1 to fit. I'm going to post pics soon. Thanks for all the input from the members!

Just did nearly the same upgrade. Added a second mw1 remote for the cockpit downstairs and the flush mount USB aux jack for all the iPods our boating gang brings to the party. Cmd6 and the mw1 remotes are pretty nice. The Install was piece of cake as you said.

Please post pictures. I think I would like to follow your lead.
Best wishes !
Bill

Boat finally went in today and I have to say I'm absolutely loving this CDM6 Clarion with the MW1 remote. As I stated the other day I added 2 Clarion USB extensions, one in the cockpit and one inside. I placed a "Y" connector USB on the back of the head unit and then to the respective extensions. This is so great because when I sleep on the boat all I have to do is hook up the ipod to the inside USB connect. So so simple. I just took pics and will post.

Here are the pics of my recent change over. I placed the second Clarion USB extension on the outside of the cabinet for easy access.

I recently bought a 2003 340 . I removed the, existing XMD1 and am having a devil of a time with enough slack in the wiring harness to work with a new unit. Did you have to disconnect the power panel to gain access for installation?

In order to really replace what you need you have to take out the entire main panel. It's not as daunting as it sounds. Theres 6 screws to remove and it will allow you to gain access to the area. It's still not exactly easy pickings back there but you can't do anything without taking it off. It replaces back easily. You'll see the amplifiers back there while its off. I was really pleased with my replacement. It's worked nicely. As you can see in the pics I chose to keep a 6 channel CD player. I still have plenty of CD's I like and use. With the option on the Clarion for a USB hookup it was a no brainer. Plus, I didn't have to start making new panels to close up holes that are left by the old CD player.
