Clarion CMD5 remote

I'm still looking, but you're the 3rd person I've seen that says the new lcd remote won't work with the old cable, don't want to spend the money on the remote if it won't work. I have only found one other clarion remote thus far that has an lcd, and it is specifically for one head unit.

When I replaced my XMD1 with the CMD5, the old remote would control it but the LCD did not work using the old cable. I went ahead and bought a new remote (sorry, don't remember model #, CMRC1 maybe??) and it works fine with the same, old cable.

Chris,

Remind me which head unit you have.

cmd4, however I am considering the cmd5 if this experiment with cables comes out in your favor

Kind of. I have an old head unit (XMD3), a (new to me) remote which is labeled as compatible with the XMD3 (so it may be new or old), and a (new to me) cable of which type I have no idea, but I'll find out late tonight. My new remote is a CMRC-1 BSS, which I believe to be an older remote based on the units with which it is compatible.

So, if the cable type matters, does the "Y" connector type matter?

SB (Newbie) has a new head unit (CMD5), a new remote, and an old cable and it works. But, the new unit, old remote, and old cable didn't work (display didn't work), so, is it a matter of matching the head unit with the remote, the remote with the cable, or the head unit with either the cable or the remote? Now, I can't wait to see what kind of cable I ended up with.

I had the correct wire for the new remote. I'll have to read the link above, later, to determine if it's a matter of the remotes not being compat. with eachother.

What I did buy though said:
Great idea? I never did understand why all these marine head units come with IR remotes. Basically worthless for my situation. Any issues with the RF unit?

I installed a second wired remote on my 300DA but chose to place it just inside the stern door where I could reach it from both the transom and my rear cockpit seat. I also moved the remote LCD light power from my nav lights to my cockpit floor lights. I wasn't a big fan of having to run the nav lights while at dock to see the remote and I am not underway much after dark.

No issues. It's great. I put my remote light on an unused accessory switch just below my stereo power switch on the dash for the same reason.

Hampton, I see the RF remote receiver "connects to the normal wired remote port at the head unit". Can it also be connected downstream to replace an existing wired remote without running new cabling? My wife would love this while laying on the bow or out on her floating island.

Hi Spiro, I see you have a 98 370DA Sundancer. Did you have to make the whole larger to install the CMD5? I am changing out my old Clarion with the CMD5 and I didn't check to see if it would fit the existing whole. I am also upgrading the disc changer with the newer Clarion changer and I hope that fits. Can you give me any insite on how hard it will be to make the change. Thanks

this thread was started when i had a 320da, but i think the cmd5 will fit in hole without modification.
