Chesapeake Bay destinations?

This is the second year we've been there by boat so I'm familiar with the entrance channel. It is starting to shoal so you need to hug the red markers, the boat I'm traveling with ran aground in the channel but he draws 6.5'. Leaving this morning at mid-tide I saw no less than 6' and mostly 8-10'.

The restaurant is called the Oyster Farm Seafood Eatery and we've had great meals both times we've been there.

Brown Dog Ice Cream s a must but also check out Kool Eats off the main drag.

We just got back from there yesterday. You are getting several great suggestions. St Michaels is probably our favorite from the trip. Very cool maritime museum there with transient docks if you come by water. Interesting shop where they are rebuilding old wooden boats. In Annapolis, Ego Alley is great boat watching. The Boatyard bar and restaurant had great food with not too bad a wait. They had some of the best crab cakes of the trip. Tour the Naval Academy if time permits. We spent a week with a friend in a 31 ft Tiara and really enjoyed the water there. It is full of nettles, so don't plan on jumping in (they look like miniature Portuguese Man of War jellyfish).

Thanks for the suggestions. We are leaving next Monday the 31st. Still wish we were taking the boat but at least without it we will have more time to sight-see. Since we are in the market for a bigger boat it might be a good chance to passively check out a few while we are down there.

Did you arrive by your 480DB? If so, what are your thoughts on the channel as far as markings and shoaling. And what's the name of the restaurant on the dock?

Sorry, just re-read your question. The restaurant is called C-Pier. Looks more like a bar at the end of the main dock. I believe it's only open on the weekends.

Well we are in Cape Charles now. Love it so far. Got here yesterday afternoon. Brown dog ice cream is closed on Tuesdays so haven't made it there yet. Booked a charter on a 50' boat tomorrow night called the 'Miss Jennifer'. Hung out at the beach all day in the water. Very warm water. Stopped at the Shanty but didn't eat there yet. Walked the docks and checked out some boats. And golf carts everywhere...lol. Will be heading home Friday.

Got back last night. Loved it. Funny story, our first night there (Monday) we ate at McDonalds. Sat and watched the sunset then went to eat and didn't know everything closed at 9:00 so McD's was about the only thing left open. Had Brown Dogs Wednesday. Very good. Stopped at the Oyster Farm. Very nice place but we didn't eat there, just walked around. We stayed at Cape Charles House (B&B) on Tazewell St. Very nice people. Sunsets were amazing. Boat trip on the Miss Jennifer was awesome too. We ate at DeadRise Pies on our last night. The Shanty had great food and about 15 miles up 13 is a place called The Island Restaurant (or something like that). Excellent food there too. Went swimming in the Bay twice. First time was Tuesday and the water was very warm, even hot tub like warm. Went again Thursday and it was quite a bit cooler.

This was one of those vacations where we didn't really plan anything, just see where we end up each day. Did alot of driving around and just following interesting signs.

I would definitely go back again and would recommend it to anyone else.

Heading to Oyster Farm Thursday for the weekend weather permitting. We have friends staying at the campground around the corner and hope to dinghy over to hang with them during the day.

I think that campground is Cherrystone? The boat we took the cruise on is moored near there. The campground is to the right at the end of the road and the Miss Jennifer is to the left.
